We were already in Yorkshire and decided, last minute to tag on a two day stay in the Dales. There was limited availability but Newfield Hall looked ok if a bit expensive for B&B.
There was nothing in the details to show that this was an HF property and I really think this should be made clear.
Maybe we chose a bad week but entering the hall was reminiscent of being in an institution for elderly people. I’m not young but felt very youthful in comparison with the other guests who were mainly there for group activity holidays including a Gilbert and Sullivan week
Dinner and breakfast was a shared experience around tables of 10 which was fine but would not be everyone’s choice. The food was ok but not great and parts of the menu resembled school dinners.
The location is wonderful on the edge of stunning countryside and for a walking, cycling or sightseeing holiday it was perfect.
Our room and public areas were pretty basic and dated and for the money charged it seemed very excessive.
We did enjoy meeting some of the other guests during the meals but would not choose to stay again.
