Distinction Coachman was old and dated. Room carpet was rippled and a very old couple were given an upstairs room where there is no lift. I had to help carry their bags staff didn't want to know about it. Everything is rundown. Restaurant and cafe bar were closed more often than open.

The building is absolutely gorgeous on the outside and the lovely man that greeted my partner and I at the front desk was so sweet and friendly!! We were very excited to see the room in person as the pictures looked very nice, but once we settled in there, we were a little disappointed... The bathroom was beautiful but the shower was so dirty!! There was multi-coloured soap scum in the grout on the walls, lining the top edge of the bath where it meets the tiles, and all around the handle to turn the shower on. There was also a lot of calcium build up on the shower head. The shower pressure was good though and the bath part seemed clean but I think if I were to come here again, I will be bringing my own cleaning supplies. Also, the air conditioning unit did not work and the fan that was also provided for the room was extremely loud so it was a very hot night for us. Otherwise, there was a nice view of the fountain out in the backyard and it was a very quiet place to stay in. Overall we give it maybe a 6/10? Probably would stay here again just because of how great the parking was and how pretty the building is lol

Run of the mill motel
Well I got off to a bad start thanks to the hotel group naming both their Palmerston North hotels with the word 'Distinction...' so I thought I had booked into the other hotel that is apparently not bad. So after a trivial $9 Uber I had made my way from the Distinction hotel to the Distinction Coachman hotel. My room was very old fashioned and in desperate need of an update, with no air conditioning in the peak of summer and a 70's decor. The staff were nice, meal was average and location okay to walk to town from.

Booked the Ex Suite, needs total redecorating, was woken at 6am with kitchen empting there waste in bins from the previous night, enjoyed the glass going in the bin at 6am nice wakeup call for top priced room.

The property and rooms were old and need updating, the night concierge was super nice and helpful so was the day staff. It was what we expected and suited our needs for 1 night of sleep.

I'm sorry to say this was my worst accommodation experience ever. I can't understand how this hotel is rated 4 stars. Palmerston North was almost shut down on 2 January, so I'm sure that didn't help. Here's what we got: -the restaurant was closed -the pool and spa were closed -we arrived at 4pm and saw many rooms not made up, with dirty dishes from room service still lying in the corridor -we got "upgraded" from motel suite to hotel room, but it was dark and musty so we asked to be put back in the motel -no microwave -no cloth to wash dishes or dish rack to stack them -no forks -carpet was so dirty we had to put down our picnic rug and sleeping mat on the floor so we could walk in socks or barefoot -bathroom floor was sticky -throws on beds were smelly and dusty -duvets were yellowed -the cleaner knocked on the door at 9:40, 20 minutes before checkout and before we had handed in our keys, even though there were hardly any other guests in the whole place -the photos on Expedia don't reflect reality I regret spending this money ahead of time. I recommend to drive into Palmerston North and have a look around the accommodation before you pay.

Very dated hotel/motel, looks like it hasn't been renovated in 40 years or more. Spa was not working. Paid less for much nicer 4 star hotels in Australian capital cities.

The staff were outstanding and very helpful. We stayed the previous night in Taupo and this hotel is only just under 2 hours drive to Wellington. We had a buffet breakfast included in our stay. Left Palmerston North at 9am and arrived in Wellington by 11am. Parked the car in Wilson car perk and had all day to look around Wellington in preparation to board our Interislander ferry to Picton

The other reviews made this hotel sound terrible, but it was fine. Nothing amazing, but room was similar standard to an Ibis, and very friendly staffl. Also, the breakfast was very good for the price.

The cleaner took my shoe storage box. It was not near the rubbish and did not look like rubbish. It should not have been touched.

Terrible stay. Rubbish that smelt in stairway stayed there 24 hours. Rubbish was under bed. Carpet in door way lifted and spikes sticking through and they had put a mat over it. Kettle didn’t work. Tiles in bathroom & shower extremely slippery. Wife slipped and fell over, injured back. Told reception and there answer was that bathrooms going to be renovated. And that a cleaner left early which is why rubbish in stairs and under bed.

Would stay here again. The room was as described on Expedia and was very comfortable. A little dated looking but a lot of that was the style of the hotel. Our first room had a label on air con unit ‘out of service’ so we changed rooms.

The advertise photos did not match what we actually got, the carpet was stained and looked as though it had been flooded at some stage is was loose and had ridges you can trip on the room smelled musty, all very overpriced
