Betsy & Gary were the best hosts! They took pride and explained everything from day one at their jungle oasis. The rooms are jungle treehouses with howling monkeys, birds, and the sea crashing in. Their food is absolutely delicious and rotates daily with hip intl staff and guests you can't go wrong. 5 Stars from Brad & Katya. Just LOVE for The Hummingbird. xoxo

A perfect oasis with great attention to detail - the team are dedicated to making your stay super special. The rooms have been thoughtfully designed and the overall ambience is one of relaxation and unwinding. The restaurant and food (quality and service) is second to none. Excellent place to stay
We were a group of friends staying for 4 nights and we absolutely loved this place. Betsy and team were incredible, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent (breakfast and dinner) and great cocktails! The rooms are amazing - never slept so well.

I had a wonderful 2 night stay at The Hummingbird. I stayed in one of the bungalows, which was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Betsy and Gary were very welcoming and made sure all my needs were met and exceeded. They arranged all my transportation as well as a boat tour around the islands. They were also very accommodating to my vegetarian diet at the restaurant. The food was delicious as were the drinks! I only wish I had stayed longer! Wonderful trip!

Wonderful place
Awesome. Incredible hosts and staff. Originally we were going to stay 5 days and move on but decided to stay another 5. We woke each morning to howler monkeys and wild parrots greeting the day. Food is great and the service friendly and attentive. We will be coming back. Place is off the grid but you really couldn’t tell other than no AC but the rooms have fans and we had no problem sleeping. Highly recommend Hummingbird

Great hosts in PARADISE!
The fact that this review is being written that far after our stay should tell you all you need to know about this stunning property and location. The memories and experience will last a lifetime. And don't let the logistics of getting there stand in your way. The trip is soooooo worth it! Gary and Betsy are the best hosts my wife and I have ever experienced and are there to accommodate the guests with anything they could ever need. The property and surrounding garden is its own little paradise. And the beach is STEPS away! Just make the trip and enjoy.

Das kleine, feine Hotel liegt am schönen Bluff Beach und ist in den angrenzenden Dschungel eingebettet. Die geschmackvoll eingerichteten Doppelbungalows liegen inmitten tropischer Blumen und auf der Terrasse sind häufig Kolibris zu sehen. Die Terrassentür lässt sich über die komplette Breite öffnen, so dass man das Gefühl hat, mitten im Dschungel zu schlafen. Das Restaurant bietet leckere Gerichte, ist allerdings am Wochenende geschlossen. Gutes reichhaltiges Frühstück gibt es täglich und ist im Zimmerpreis enthalten. Host Gerry ist der Tierflüsterer und hat uns Faultiere, Affen und seltene Frösche gezeigt, Betty bereitet hervorragende Cocktails und Speisen. Ein super Angelausflug wurde für uns organisiert. Der lange Sandstrand eignet sich hervorragend für Spaziergänge zum Schwimmen nur bei wenig Wellen. Wichtig zu wissen: Das Meer ist nur wenige Schritte von der Anlage entfernt, aber es gibt kein echten Seaview vom Zimmer, Pool oder Restaurant-man hört es rauschen, sieht aber nur eine kleine Ecke Blau - hat uns am Anfang etwas enttäuscht, später haben wir die Flora und Fauna genossen.

Fantastisk oase på Bluff Beach. Super hyggelige eiere fra England. Meget bra mat i restauranten. Flott hotellområde og basseng. Virkelig et sted man kan slappe av, Rommet var behagelig, og inkluderte mer enn forventet med tanke på at hele stedet er driftet av solenergi. Ikke A/C, men var helt greit med vifte. Kjøleskap på rommet. Anbefales på det varmeste. Kommer helt klart tilbake hvis jeg skal på de kanter igjen.

prachtige accomodatie op een mooie locatie. wel belangrijk om te weten is dat de locatie is gelegen op 7 a 8 km van het dorpje met restaurants en bars. in de directe omgeving van het hotel is de keuze voor bars en restaurants zeer beperkt. Om naar het dorpje te gaan is dus een taxi nodig. lopen is te ver. fietsen zou kunnen maar is niet aan te raden ivm slechte kwaliteit van weg (zandpad met kuilen) ook is de weg niet verlicht. Ook belangrijk om te weten is dat de zee niet geschikt is om in te zwemmen. de zee is te ruig en heeft een sterke stroming. er zijn veel waarschuwingen aanwezig. Hotel zelf is keurig en netjes. Kamers zijn schoon en de tuin is werkeljk prachtig. in de kamers is geen airco aanwezig. de eigenaren, Betsy en Gary zijn super aardig en altijd bereid je van de dienst te zijn. Met andere woorden; dit is een aanrader voor iedereen die van rust en natuur houdt. Behalve het strand is hier namelijk niet heel te beleven. perfect dus als je hier naar op zoek bent.

We had a fantastic stay at the Hummingbird! The staff and owners, Gary and Betsy, were all so lovely and attentive. The food for breakfast and dinner was a delicious high standard, and whilst ‘they don’t do lunch’, the bar snacks are more than big and tasty enough to keep you going in the day. The 4 villas at the Hummingbird are equally charming, with doors that open fully bringing the forest and beach into your room, and give you a great way to spot the many species all around (We saw sloths, monkeys, frogs, lizards, an agouti, hummingbirds, and a turtle whilst in the grounds or just outside on Playa Bluff!)

Hummingbird isn't for everyone. It's off-grid and out-of-the-way. But it's also out-of-this-world. The essential message is that Hummingbird is a wonderful, intimate place to unwind, commune with sloths (real ones), and fall sleep to the symphony of crashing waves. Highly recommended.

Betsy and Gary take special care with all their guests from the moment you arrive to to moment you depart. Cooked to order breakfasts, tons of birds, butterflys and nature to watch, super comfy rooms, ocean facing bar are just a few of the special things about this Inn. Worth the drive down the beach road for this experience!

Fantastiskt boende i en närmast botanisk trädgård med massor av Hummingbirds, fjärilar, sengångare och andra djur. Mycket vacker, fräsch och stor härlig pool att lata sig vid. Otroligt bra kök och suverän personal. Värdparet är mycket trevligt och tillmötesgående, ingenting som vi önskade var ett problem. De ger bra tips på vad du kan göra i Bocas och är dessutom mycket kunniga på flora och fauna. Rummet var i en fantastik bungalow, stort, rent, vackert - en ren njutning.

Amazing stay with great hosts
Truely amazing stay at The Hummingbird. Betsy and Gary have really found an ideal spot on the Island and carefully built this place with cosy Bungalows in a beautiful garden with great views. Everything is thought through in detail and absolutely high end, including breakfast and dinner. Bluff beach is right on the doorstep and probably one of the prettiest beaches in Bocas, not always good for swimming though. If you want some days or weeks to relax, enjoy being in the nature and have no problems with being on the quieter Part of the island(s) this is the perfect spot. For us it was probably one of the most enjoyable hotel stays ever.

A little slice of jungle heaven
My wife and I spend three restful days at the Hummingbird following our wedding that was busy and filled with activities for family and friends. While the weather didn't cooperate until the last day, we couldn't have asked for better stay. The room was nicely appointed with excellent bedding and towels, including separate towels for beach and pool use. The shower and vanity areas were nicely appointed with modern fixtures. The semi-private balcony was a perfect place to relax during the day. The breakfast was presented as a menu fixe in the morning, but for our three days it was nicely varied and always delicious. Fresh fruit, french press coffee, fresh juice and a nice main. The dinner menu was varied enough to keep things interesting and the quality was excellent, with 4-5 seasonal options for starters, mains and dessert along with a daily special. For our short stay it was just right. For lunch we wandered up the road to a local place that had good pizza and assorted sandwiches and pasta that was casual and tasty. The owners Gary and Betsy, do their best to make sure you're comfortable and content and are excellent to guiding you for however much or little activity is on your agenda. Gary also has a great eye for the local wildlife and was always pointing out birds and critters living in the area. A wonderful stay. Better for adults seeking a respite that those go go go types needing or wanting constant stimulation.

One of Panama's Best
It is hard to imagine guests not thoroughly enjoying a relaxing stay at the Hummingbird in Boca del Toro. For us, spending three weeks in Panama, this was our best accommodation throughout the country. Hosts Betsy and Gary (a married couple who hail from the US and UK, respectively) have created a beautiful, peaceful, clean, eco-friendly, satisfying haven along Boca’s eastern shore and exude genuine warmth and hospitality. With just six spacious rooms (spread across three different bungalows), things are cozy and personal. The onsite restaurant/bar has a delicious selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts, many accented with fruits grown on site. The little bananas were in season in January and delicious. Solar energy (and battery storage) provide responsible energy 24/7. The Wi-Fi was reliable and strong. Your fridge is provided with filtered, ice cold water daily. The onsite pool is very, very clean and almost a pet project of Gary’s. Plenty of lounge chairs and hammocks allow one to pass the day away peacefully and in comfort. There are three things to know, in case these are important to you: the location may be a bit isolated for some (shuttles and cabs can get you to town); no lunch is served on site but options are available nearby; the beach has strong rip currents which can make swimming hazardous (warning signs are posted). But guess what. There are plenty of hummingbirds around the property amidst natural flora and plants. Enjoy your stay!

Our three night stay at the Hummingbird couldn't have been better. We'd briefly spoken to Gary prior to our arrival and despite arriving a few hours before check in, he sent a car to pick us up from Bocas and kindly got the room ready for us speedily, which was appreciated after an overnight bus from Panama City. Gary and Betsy are excellent hosts - and truly go out their way to make sure you have the best stay possible, from recommendations on the local area, to booking you on trips, and even kindly offered us use of their laptop to book flights for later on our trip. The hotel is set in stunning grounds, right off Playa Bluff (unfortunately you can't swim from the shore most of the year round but it makes for a beautiful walk). The hotel is some way out of Bocas, so budget for a few taxis (c $15-20 each way) or there's a local bus service we used which was very reliable and much cheaper. There's a restaurant on site which is genuinely excellent - we had the best food in Bocas here, and ended up dining there every night, which isn't something we normally do. The rooms are beautifully furnished, with lovely balconies to relax on and there's a decent sized pool area with plenty of hammocks to lounge around on too. Finally, Gary is an excellent wildlife spotter, and showed us sloths and poison dart frogs all in the grounds. All in all, a fantastic place - just book in now, you don't need to look anywhere else.

Beautiful. The highlight of our trip!
Beautiful, peaceful setting. We loved every minute there. Not close to town, but the beaches are beautiful and most of time we had the beach all to ourselves. The restaurant is excellent and the breakfasts were amazing.
