Good room, great manager.
We very much enjoyed our stay in George Town at the Magpie Heritage Hideaway - as other reviewers have mentioned, the manager Jern is a very friendly and helpful chap who gave us useful advice. The location is good for exploring George Town on foot and can also use Grab to get around easily. Don't expect the same finish/quality of furnishing/toiletries etc as a 5* hotel (why would you at this price?!) But do expect great service and a pleasant stay.

1. Location -The location is very convenient. It is nearby to some eateries and attractions. You can just walk around and will definitely find something interesting. However it is hard to get a parking for those who drive. 2. Room The room was very big and as other reviews said the mattress was very comfortable and I can vouch for this. However with that big of a room, the air condition was slightly mild. There were times when I was quite warm. 3. Facilities Facilities were good. It is sort of like a BnB where they prepared drinks and plates for those who want to eat in. There was hair dryer, coffee and tea prepared in the room and all sorts of international adapter. Really convenient. 4. Staff The staff are so friendly. They allowed us to check in early as my sister had a wedding to attend. Overall: I love it. Despite the minor improvements, its really a nice place to stay in Penang. I would come back.

Jern is extremely friendly. My wife and I went to Penang unprepared. Thanks to Jern, he provided us with lots of useful information and even upgraded our room. This property is a historic building in a convenient location (basically you can go to anywhere by grab). The room is also spacious and clean. It definitely won't disappoint you if you are looking for an alternative to typical hotels

Comfortable and great hospitality!
The hotel was located in a shophouse building, typical of Georgetown in Penang. We picked it for its location; it was only a 30-minute taxi ride from the airport and walking distance from the main tourist attractions in town. We had a huge room which was connected to our own bathroom and WC. The lobby's also very comfortable and welcoming. Our only drawback was that the air conditioning could have been stronger. We were there during the hottest period of the year in August and it took a while for the room to cool down. The best part of our trip was the great hospitality of the manager, Jern. He's prompt in replying and following up with our queries and also gave us recommendations when we needed them.

We loved our stay at the Magpie!! Not only was the location and room phenomenal, but we couldn’t have asked for a better host than Jern!!! As a local himself he know ALL the best suggestions and took so much time to walk us through a map of them as soon as we checked in. Still full from all the amazing food we ate, and already can’t wait to come back!!

Helpful and clean hotel
Absolutely amazing boutique hotel. The service was amazing and everyone was so helpful. They had a great/easy late night check in self service, they helped me plan my day trips around the city, and they went out of their way to help me take care of a small injury on my foot. Georgetown was one of my favorite destinations I’ve ever been and this hotel added to the amazement. It was so clean, modern, and beautiful. I was upgraded to a large and beautiful suite.

Very accommodating Staff. Understanding and caring
Extremely glad with our stay at Mango Tree Place. The Staff were helpful in understanding our situation and tried their best to assist despite our many changes. They were helpful in recommending places of interest and constantly checked on how we were doing. Rooms were spacious and clean. It came with all the necessary amenities that you would need. Location was quite good as well, located near most places of interest in Penang. Generally a very good stay and would definitely recommend to my friends visiting Penang.

Nice boutique hotel, pity about the warm room
Excellent location and decor, and the bed was comfortable. But the upstairs room we got felt warm -- the air-conditioner did not cool it down sufficiently, because it was quite far from the bed. Although the bathroom and toilet were private, they were not equipped with fan or air conditioning, as they were located outside the room.

Hidden Gem in George town Penang
Recently my partner had the pleasure of staying here and I am very happy we chose to! I had done quite a bit of research on places and everyone said this was the "Gem of Georgetown" I would have to agree. It was a little tricky to find the place, but that was the only downside, if you can call that a downside. Upon arrival we were sat down with the lovely lady from the desk who went through all the local tourism; Places to eat, places to shop, things to see and how to get there. She even had all the maps etc to go with it. She told us a few of her personal favourite spots. We got into the room and it felt more like my bedroom at home, had a real home and warm feeling to it. You get a swipe card so you can come and go as you please and the rooms are very quiet! Has AC and a fan and a very comfy bed. Would definitely suggest staying here if you're visiting Georgetown and I will be back!

Cozy & Tiny Hideout
It's my 1st experience in such hotel. Full of Scandinavian stuffs (haha, IKEA...). The only complaint is my room come without breakfast. Yes, it's near to famous attractions. Give it a try and you will love it.

Nice boutique hotel in the heart of GeorgeTown
We were emailed and invited to a bargain (50RM) taxi pick-up from the airport, and then met at the hotel for a personal introduction to the town and tourist attractions. This made us immediately warm to the hotel. Our room (orange) was spacious and had most mod-cons, plus some luxuries, such as Blu-Ray player and Denon stereo. Sadly, it wouldn't read our flash drives and the movie selection was limited, so we didn't use it. Complimentary mini-bar items were nice, but espresso coffee (not instant Nescafe) would have been better. Given that the hotel is a conversion from an historic shop house there were some oddities to the layout: such as walking down a private and partially open corridor, then some steps, to get to the bathroom made for an midnight adventure. Lovely power shower though, with rain and hose type both available. We had a balcony, but it was unusable given the sweaty heat, the noisy and decrypted alley below, and the blank wall view right outside. The high tech security system was both reassuring and a worry (why was it needed?) The hotel suffered in part from the very location that made it convenient: namely its right in GeorgeTown, which means no sidewalks and open drains, with accompanying traffic, precarious walking routes, rats and the smell of sewers. All part of the 'charm' and 'colour' of Peneng, but incongruous with the charming hotel. It seems unfair to judge a hotel by its neighbourhood, especially as that was the reason to stay there, but ...

The room you wish you have at home...
Greeted warmly by the service staff - Karen. She's like the house mother, making sure you are taken care of. Tells you where to get good food, what is the attraction around the hotel, bring you to your room and show you around... The room was great! Comfy till you don't feel like going out. A real getaway! Will definitely coming back!

ジョージタウンの中にあるのでとにかく立地がいい。部屋が清潔でおしゃれ。スタッフが観光や食事のアドバイスをくれる。DVDや本も借りて見られるので、のんびり。

Strategically located, Clean & Comfortable
The suitekeeper greeted us at the door, calling me by name which left a good impression on us. She patiently shared with us how to navigate around Penang, where to go and where we can find the best food in town. We stayed on level 1, the courtyard room, which was convenient (as we don't have to climb the stairs) and comfortable. Only setback was the bathroom. We showered with high water pressure so it took awhile for the water to drain away. But this is minor and non-disruptive so in conclusive, it was an enjoyable stay. Definitely will recommend this boutique hotel and will go back to Mango Tree Place Hideaway for our next vacation to Penang.

Excellent Boutique Hotel
Pleasant stay. Very convenience as most of the attraction such as Penang Street Art, Chew Jetty etc & also famous local food are on walking distance. Room was clean & décor was great. The only disappointment is the Mangotree Café located at the lobby is not open as they are shifting out at the moment of my stay.

Great experience
Just stayed there for 2 days with my wife & the services provided by the hotel staffs were excellent. They were very helpful & attentive to our needs, even offered to queue & help us bought some famous penang pastries. Hotel location is ideally located, within walking distance to armenian mural street, clan jetties, shopping malls & famous penang laksa & chendol. Plenty of nice food around & very near to Kimberly food street which operates in the night. Wonderful experience. Definitely will stay there again in my next trip to penang.

A charming hotel at the heart of Georgetown
Hotel is a newly refurbished shop house at Georgetown, which is in close proximity to key attractions such as penang street art , khoo kongsi, clan jetties, 3D trick art museum etc. It is also within walking distance to China House, a popular cafe/bar and other restaurants and cafes. The suite-keepers were very helpful and friendly and gave us an extensive briefing on how to navigate around the area on the day of our arrival. The room is cosy and comes with the necessary creature comforts for a relaxing stay. Breakfast was also included, and it consisted of nonya kuey, local delights such as roti prata and fried kway teow, fresh fruits, coffee/tea/juice. Overall experience was great and will definitely be back if I'm traveling to Penang again.

Beautiful little hotel
Great little boutique-style hotel close to all the sights, right in Georgetown. Wonderful service - staff were very informative letting us (first time visitors to Penang) know where to go. The hotel provided a lovely local breakfast as well. We had to leave early when we checked out so they kindly prepared a takeaway breakfast for us the evening before. The room we stayed in was the 'Blue' room - very spacious and tastefully decorated with modern fittings, making our stay very comfortable. Would definitely recommend to others, or stay again!

My wife and I stayed here in June 2014. Upon arrival we were greeted by Wei who took us to a resting area, brought us refreshments, helped us interpret the local maps and offered valuable travel advice. She and the staff were very hospitable and had a keen attention to detail. I spent many years working in 4 diamond luxury resorts in Canada and I found her care and attention remarkable. This boutique hotel is located in the old Georgetown area close to local attractions such as the clan jetties, street murals and even a major mall - all within comfortable walking distance. It has four suites so that affords the staff lots of time to focus on their guests. It is very clean, modern and has lovely decor; we stayed in one of the upstairs suites which was immaculate, furnished with a comfortable king sized bed, flat screen tv, stereo and Blu Ray DVD player. There was a small fridge equipped with complimentary refreshments. There are books and new-release DVDs for guests to borrow during the stay. For the included breakfast, we were served local cuisine with specialty coffees, fresh fruit and juices. There is also an attached cafe which offered guests a 20% discount. We felt relaxed and rested each morning, ready to explore Penang. I highly recommend Mango Tree Hideaway (there is also a sister hotel at the other end of Georgetown).

Can't go wrong.
All of the staff where super helpful, offering advice and knowledge without being asked. The hotel is very new comprising numerous rooms in a shop house frontage. The rooms are larger than normal, ours "the Blue room" could have been described as a suite in many hotels, as it had more than one sitting area and was a nice large size. The rooms have no numbers, preferring to go with a colour scheme. Blue, yellow, etc. The doors are as if hidden panels painted in the respective colour and accessed via card as they have no door handles, very novel. The breakfast was excellent, showcasing the local cuisine. For the price it was 5* I would have no hesitation recommending it to our visiting friends and hope to make a new visit in the future.
