Wish we had stayed longer
what a great pousada in central Portugal. makes a great stop if traveling from the north to the Algarve. i certainly wish that time allowed a longer stay. the village is quite small and the hotel is surrounded by farm land. the building was originally a monastery in the 1400's. it is a national monument. stone walls, high ceilings, and very atmospheric. property includes a small museum & panels with building history. staff at check in was so welcoming. the desk man insisted on carrying our bags not only into the hotel, but to our room on the second floor. miraculously there is an elevator. the hotel feels huge due to the many lounging areas for guests and the maze of passages. lovingly cared for grounds and a pool prefect for relaxing. furnishings are modern. also a spa we did not visit. our room was a superior historic room with a canopied double bed, two chairs, and a desk. the bath was quite large with double sink marble counter and large shower. nice amenities including, robe, slippers, and lotion. large dining room for dinner and a well done breakfast spread. our dinner was hit and miss as most dishes had some type of issue we disliked-overcooked pasta and shrimp, soggy & barely warm tempura beans, etc. if you need it wi-fi was strong. very quiet at night and outdoor lighting creates a beautiful atmosphere. but if you prefer to sleep in, be prepared for the roosters, etc. to wake you early. we feel lucky to have found such a splendid place and highly recommend it.

À parte as altas temperaturas foi muito agradável. Funcionários muito simpáticos. O quarto era excelente. A piscina ajudou a refrescar. Experiência a repetir.

Le monastère est joli mais l’hôtel n’est pas accueillant. Tout semble compliqué dès que l’on demande quelque chose: réservation obligatoire pour dîner, peu de staff, si vous arrivez charger avec vos bagages du parking, attendez vous à un parcours du combattant. La climatisation ne fonctionne pas dans la chambre. Les chambres font datées. Une prise électrique dans toute la chambre pour charger un portable.

Magnífico e Tranquilo
Mosteiro do Crato - Flor da Rosa - um local onde voltamos com agrado. Nesta magnífica Pousada sentimo-nos acolhidos como numa casa de família. O local é tranquilo e regenerador, o serviço e a gentileza no atendimento supera o esperado.

Other than a hard bed, absolutely awesome!
This place is amazing. It's a small town and kind of isolated, but the Pousada is the real draw. It's a fantastic building and staying in it was a highlight of our trip. The staff were all extremely polite and helpful. They have parking right in front - it's even covered. Our room had a very authentic feel but with modern amenities. The WiFi was great and the shower was fine as well. We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel and really enjoyed both. We also utilized the jacuzzi in the spa and that was fun. The pool was chilly so we didn't dive in. All of the areas have a great feel to them, especially at night when everything is lit up. The TV had lots of channels, many in English as well. The only thing keeping this place from being perfect was the bed - it was a rock! I know it's a matter of preference, but if you're from the US and used to pillow top mattresses or memory foam, it's going to hurt.

Good but could be better
At first sight this hotel looks amazing and it should be. Sadly it fails on a few fronts. The staff are not overly charming and at times are dismissive. They seem to be over worked or just not on top of things. The pool gets pretty crowded and there aren’t enough sun-beds for everyone. The outdoor cafe is located underneath the brutalist extension to the property and has the feel of an underground car park with very little charm. The bar looks more like a kiosk and has very little in common with a 4 star hotel. The bedrooms are large and comfortable but they need a little care and repair. The restaurant is good with a great choice of local cuisine.

Modern Pousada based on 14th Century Monastery.Rooms in new wing are large with a balcony . Excellent breakfast though the food in the restaurant in the evening was only average . Public rooms are part of the old building and are wonderful. The monastery church is amazing! Easy to find, free parking, short drive to Portalegre and Marvão. Staff were very good and all spoke good English. The pool looks lovely but we stayed in November!

Extraordinary location in centre of nicely maintained village. Exceptional renovation/ rehabilitation of historic chapel/ fortress into a modern hotel with restaurant and spa, by using the old structures and adding contemporary architecture wing. Seamless transition between the two areas. Part of the old building is organized as a museum. Not wheelchair accessible. Good quality restaurant, nice swimming pool, maybe too busy in summer. Good service overall.

A nights stay in a genuine castle, what an experience. We stayed in the old part & were thoroughly enchanted with our room. We might have been disappointed though if we had ended up in the modern extension. Pool was excellent, although the spa was small & there was no gym. There was a 3 euro fee each to see the church part of the castle, a little niggle there. Good parking, friendly & attentive staff & great cuisine. Every bit as good as the Paradors in Spain.

Step back in history.
The Monastery is well worth visiting, but it is a long drive from Lisbon and does not have a direct connection to Algarve, our next connection. It is a step back in time and a unique place to stay. Excellent food and friendly staff.

Found this to be so-so, definitely not up to the standard of the rating and good reviews. It's more like 3.5 start than five star. Room was dated and not very comfortable, bed and pillows hard. The pool area is nice but there is one toilet there in the back of a dirty storage room. Garden by the pool is nice and well maintained. The photos online are somewhat misleading. Staff are very nice, helpful and friendly. The beakfast was good but again it would not be five star standard. Maybe things are better in high season when there are more guests / facilities.

Wonderful stay at this converted monastery! Tough to believe it’s a hotel from the historical appearance but the rooms, restaurant, staff and facilities inside were excellent!

Unique and beautiful property.
The building is beautifully restored. The pool is a gorgeous place to spend the afternoon. The staff is courteous and helpful. We found the restaurant short of service staff. And the nearby town did not seem to have much to offer. This is a great place to just relax for a few days.

O hotel está carente de funcionários, sem suporte em restaurante, atendimento de bar e piscina. Uma pena, pois o Mosteiro é um lugar muito interessante para se visitar, porém, não recomendo, pois não existe nenhuma relação entre as estrelas apresentadas e a realidade. O jovem Manager, recém chegado terá muito trabalho para poder ser real, o que é divulgado.

Zwischenstopp in historischem Haus
Eine sehr angenehme Zwischenstation auf dem Weg von der spanischen Grenze nach Tomar. Leider war es sehr regnerisch und der Aufenthalt war nur kurz geplant. Daher konnten die vielen Annehmlichkeiten des Hauses (z.B.Spa) nicht genutzt werden.

A really marvellous, impressive historic building which has a tastefully modernised interior. A hotel which is full of character. Friendly helpful welcome. Good breakfast and dinner. It is nice have very good regional dishes . Excellent, Professional, friendly staff throughout. An excellent hotel! My only criticism is that the WiFi keeps dropping out.

Excelente estada
Hotel situado em uma pequena localidade, Flor de Rosa, acolhedora e sossegada situado a menos de 1 hora de diversas áreas com atividades de interesse turístico como Castelo de vide, Portalegre, Évora, Marvão e etc. Pessoal atencioso, cortes e muito simpáticos. Quarto agradável, espaçoso com uma vista deslumbrante do campo. Banheiro espaçoso com banheira, chuveiro e ducha com amenidades e excelentes e muito bem cuidado. Chego um tranquilo , rápido e muito atencioso. O restaurante com é pessoal de atendimento muito atenciosos e simpáticos, comida excelente e não dos mais caros. Pequeno almoço com uma boa diversidade e de ótima qualidade. O check out foi tranquilo e correto. O local do hotel e no interior de um antigo mosteiro fornecendo um ar de mistério e agradável ambientes de pedras tudo misturado com a ala Nova onde temos uma arquitetura moderna com piscina, dos e outras comodidades.

Charm, Mystery and Comfort in a Gothic Monastery
Our three-night stay at the Pousada was a magnificent experience. The hotel is a gothic Maltese Knights monastery converted into luxurious lodgings with the charm and mystery of the original building fully preserved. We wanted to splurge, so we got a suite for an additional total of 100 euros and we loved it. The room was beautiful and modern, the common areas (which are numerous) are comfortable and charming, the location is good for visiting Castello do Vide and Portalegre. The staff is exceptional -- both at the reception and in the restaurant. And food is exquisite. We are vegans but we found a great variety of dishes, some of them specially adjusted for us by the chef. If you head for East Central Portugal, the Pousada is a must.
