The Lillagarrd B&B gets 2 stars from me. I would not recommend staying here. The host was unfriendly and would not upgrade my room even though I was of course going to pay for the upgrade - no matter what the cost. I was told they could not do it because I booked thru Expedia. The lodging was old and unkept. The bathroom had no sink to wash your hands. The shower had black mildew. It was terrible. Our room, unknown to us, was on the 4th floor - 4 flights of steps - no elevator. This should be told to prospective guests before booking. The "amenities" were items that I would never use - i.e. not even from the dollar store - less than that. We had a shared bathroom and was to be with one other room sharing - but any guest could (and did) use it. NO RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS B & B - I would not list this.

We are sorry to read that you were unhappy with your stay with us.Regardless of whom you booked with, we were at full capacity during your stay so we were unable to offer you a different room.Unfortunately, unlike our website-www.lillagaard.com , Expedia does not allow us to indicate what floor our rooms are on.We are an 1871 building and work hard to keep it as authentic as possible-hence no elevator. Our hotel is cleaned daily by our staff and there are frequent comments as to how clean and attentive we are so we apologize for any oversight on our part.It is highly unusual that guests other than those who are meant to be sharing a bathroom do so and if it had been brought to our attention we would have tried to prevent this happening. We have many repeat and first time guests who are very happy with their stay with us so again we are sorry that this was not so in your case.

All the things that matter...The Lilligaard has.
There are a few things I look for while at a shore-town B&B, and I found each of them at The Lillagaard: friendly, helpful staff; a good bed; close to the beach; a hearty breakfast, and a welcoming, comfortable covered porch with the breeze wafting by. I rocked and sipped tea out on the porch, watching the people passing by when I got back from the beautiful beach. Heavenly.

This is an old-fashioned inn with all the qualities that people have always loved in the best inns: very kind friendly people who run the Inn, wonderful places to relax both outside (a large porch and two other sizable balconies) and inside (lovely common rooms with books and games and a piano and flat screen TV and a beautiful diningroom with coffee and tea available day and night). The breakfast was great, the amenities incredible and rooms comfortable and clean. This Inn is a perfect example of what attention to detail, in terms of comfort, aesthetics, design and civility, can achieve.

Charming B&B with an old English feel. 2 minutes walk to ocean, 10 minutes walk to Main Street restaurants, 20 minutes walk on boardwalk to Asbury Park restaurants. No need for a car. The hotel is old with creaky stairs and classic furniture but everything works, friendly staff, and an on-site ice cream store.

Lilligaard nice but not for anyone with mobility issues
Our stay was okay, except for the multiple fights of steep stairs. The building is a a nicely restored antique with no attention to the needs of folks with mobility issues. The are facilities on 4 different floors. When told about or mobility issues there was no offer made to change our room. The view of the ocean was outstanding. The food was adequate, but not to the scale of a B & B. The room was clean and the bed was cast iron.

Hi. Sorry about your mobility issues. Our Historic Inn was built in 1871 and has a lot of stairs. Unfortunately, you booked on a 3rd party website that does not allow a description of what floor each room is located on. Our hotel website has photos, description, videos and what floor each room is located on. Had you made known about your mobility issues when making a reservation we could have worked out the best room for your situation. We even have a sister hotel a few blocks away which has 6 rooms on the ground floor, with no steps! Regards.

The property hosts Kevin and Suzanne were wonderful and were as responsive to us as the Four Season's Hotel staff when things went wrong. They were personable and accommodating and kind. The B&B was built in 1871 and, despite updates, had the charm and limitations of an old building. It was steps from the beach and a couple of short blocks from Main Street, so very convenient.

This B&B is well managed, it’s clean, huge dining area, coffee available anytime, sumptuous breakfast. Our room though is really small, on the third floor.

The hosts were very polite and welcoming. The room was cozy and the breakfast area was very quaint. My friend and I had the room with a private bathroom. The bathroom was not attached but there were keys for us to use. Breakfast was lovely! Will definitely return!

My husband and I are both in our 60’s and they gave us a room on the 4th floor There isn’t an elevator so we had to walk up 4flights with our luggage The last flight was very narrow and steep Much to our surprise they told us that we had to share the toilet and shower with another family and that was 1 floor down The pictures of the rooms were nothing like the actual room we didn’t even stay the night We found another place to stay (luckily) so we went to get our luggage and left When we left no one was at the desk or in the vicinity so that we could discuss our issues, so we placed the keys at the desk and left We haven’t received a call or any kind of communication from the owners I don’t know if we can recoup some of our money (since we had to pay to stay elsewear) but the Inn is very deceiving in the photos and we were very disappointed !!!!

Room was smallish but owners utilized space well. Don't drop the soap in the shower. Very interesting place with a rich history brought out by the owners. Front porches (3 levels) were a delight to sit on with a nice breeze and view of the ocean. Definitely would stay there again.

Lovely and cozy
Very enjoyable night getaway solo! I had a small room with a comfortable twin. Private bath. View from top porch is delightful, love the eclectic Victorian style decor, breakfast and good coffee in the morning made the stay feel extra cozy! Walking distance to good restaurants and ice cream shops. I’ll definitely go back.

The owners, Suzanne and Kevin were wonderful. From check in to check out, they explained the property, breakfast, towels, chairs and umbrellas for the beach, everything for a wonderful stay at the beach. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, filling and different items each morning. I will return, made great memories, thank you!

We enjoyed our two night stay. The location was great, the porches are very inviting, and the whole B&B has lots of charm.. The full breakfast was good. Our room was very small, but we managed. On the whole, Ocean Grove was a charming surprise We would be happy to visit again.and would happily stay at The Lillagaard.
