We chose to stay here due to the easy access to Rutland Waters which was a lovely short walk away. The stay itself was ok, we had a slight incident of someone coming into our room thinking it was empty (could do with some chains on the doors or do not disturb signs or checking your own booking info), also if your running the place don't be the one being extra noisy at midnight, this was only one of the nights and probably a one off incident but kinda put a dampener on the weekend due to the lack of sleep after both incidents. Breakfast was lovely though and the chef was really nice and accommodating. Like I say perfectly placed to visit the lake and local villages. I hope our incidents were probably one offs

Very friendly and just reopened with new management and a major refurbishment, can see in the future this will be a very popular place to stay.

Very good position ideal for Stamford, Oakham and Rutland water. Karen excellent host (chef) nothing to much trouble. Will stay again.

Couldn't do enough for me
I booked the Noel very last minute as I had to travel on business and avoid the forecasted storms. Despite me only placing my booking at almost 10.30pm, the owners went out of their way to contact me, ensure me that I would be able to get into the hotel and make my room super cosy for my arrival. Over and above what I would expect from any hotel to be honest and it didn't end there, even though their chef was off the following day, I was provided with a lovely cooked breakfast to see me on my way. Absolutely lovely people and can't thank them enough for looking after me so well.I would have no hesitation staying here again and in fact I hope that I will have to one day soon. Thanks again

Karen and her team had only been in the property for a short time before our visit and the project is a work in progress. The bar and dining areas have been tastefully revamped. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The team were very friendly and helpful. The food, both breakfast and evening meal was delicious. The Noel is ideally placed for visiting Rutland Water and surrounding area.

Comfortable bed,basic accomodation with tea and coffee making facilities .cleaning in bathroom not great. But on the whole we had a good nights sleep ,and the staff very pleasant and gave us a very good breakfast.

Noel at Whitwell
Good food, friendly, helpful staff and a lovely area to explore around Rutland water. Room decor a little tired and could do with a little facelift but all things considered we would definitely stay there again.

Comfortable stay
The important question first: would I stay there again, and the answer is certainly yes. Bear in mind that this is formerly an old pub and some of the rooms have a quirkiness to go with it. Nevertheless, they are comfortable with everything you would expect from a modern hotel. The restaurant is good - don't miss Steak Night - and is recently reopened so the menu isn't in full swing. I've docked a point as the restaurant heating was broken for part of our stay but we were fine with big sweaters! Ian at front of house with Samuel in the kitchen are making a good job of getting the customers back.

The room was very comfortable and had plenty of storage. The bathroom was very clean with a good shower and fluffy towels! The bar serves local beer from pumps and there were so many gins to choose from. The restaurant area was very nicely decorated and lovely and spacious too. Mark the owner greeted us so warmly when we arrived and the waitress was so attentive we felt quite spoilt! The food is amazing - I recommend the pie - and quite honestly the cooked breakfast is the best we’ve ever had!

Excellent Covid-secure stay
Quiet, comfy room for two nights, with excellent dinner and breakfast. The proprietor and staff have worked hard to create a safe and enjoyable environment during the current covid restrictions. Everything is cleaned, one-way system, sanitisers, excellent table spacing and no congestion areas. We felt very safe. The proprietors will turn away groups who they don't feel sure are within the rules and are committed to safety.

The food was excellent.very well presented, hot and menu catered for everyone.the service in the restaurant was very efficient.staff and owners very friendly.i was disappointed in the decor of the place.it is very tired looking in the bedrooms and stairway.if they did the paintwork and new carpets throughout the property it would be really improved.they are trying their hardest but need to invest in it.

Helpful people who run and operate the hotel. A few problems. Willow is a very noisy bedroom with an unpleasant hum coming from either a refrigeration unit or something else. When we arrived, no toilet paper.The towels were damp. No heating of any sort. At least have a heated towel rail. The room was adequate and small with just one small window up quite high. For £130 per night, we have had much much better in the UK and certianly over the channel. Breakfast from 8.30 till 9.390. We arrived at 9.10am. No cereal bowls! Had to ask. The cold buffet was pretty basic. The coffee was weak. The full English breakfast was generous. The room did not live up to the 'look' in the photographs on the website. If the price had been more reasonable then we might have accepted the various complaints.

Warm and exceptionally comfortable, excellent food but the stand out feature was the superb service. Friendly and professional, and the overriding inpmression that nothing would be a problem, they would endeavour to help make our stay a great experience. I will definitely go back.

This was a last minute booking that became available after a cancellation. The owner could not have been more helpful and friendly. Rooms comfortable, location excellent, breakfast excellent. Would recommend it and not hesitate to stay there again myself.
