Hi Raul thanks for your excellent review. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay and that we took care of you well. Regarding the police presence, to be honest we never hear of any crimes taking place on the street in the Colonial Zone. We normally get a police patrol passing the hotel every few minutes during the night, this may have reduced due to the road closures but we will pass on your feedback to the head of the police for the area as I know they are keen to ensure that all visitors feel safe. Andrew firstly I want to assure you that the whole of my team is absolutely devastated to have received this review. We just wish we could have done something to make you happy and enjoy your stay with us. I'd like to make a few points in response to your review. When you arrived we took you to your room, as is normal in our property. You said you didn't like the curtains (I think these are what you call blinds in your review). You also said you didn't like the furniture. To my mind these are matters of taste. The guest who stayed in that room before you said they loved the decor. The guest currently staying in that room has extended their stay twice, so clearly they also like it. You also said you didn't like the view. Our hotel is in the middle of the Colonial Zone with buildings around us on each side, clearly we cannot do much about a view. In response, we showed you a second room - bear in mind that it's high season and the hotel is 100% full, so changing your room would involve moving several other reservations. In this case you said the bed was too small. The bed was a Queen, and you had booked a Queen room. Again, no other guests have complained that those beds are too small, and the second room we showed is by far our most popular. You make a comment about peeling wallpaper. We have checked the room again and cannot find any peeling wallpaper. The wallpaper actually matches the curtains that you hated, so I can understand that it also wasn't to your taste. You also make a comment to say that the hotel isn't cared for and isn't clean. And honestly that isn't fair. I have two people working full-time on maintenance (for a 15-bed hotel) and they are constantly painting, repairing and maintaining. It's a very old house, it takes a lot of maintenance. Regarding cleaning, I have a separate team of cleaners, and all of our rooms are checked by front-desk before check-in. As with any hotel on the planet, if you look hard you'll see areas that need more attention but trust me my staff are 100% dedicated to cleaning and maintaining the property.One other point I want to make is regarding price and value. We charge about US 100 a night for a room, including breakfast and taxes for two people, use of the pool and jacuzzi. I freely admit we are not the Ritz Carlton, we are a three star property and provide solid value for money. Maybe you had higher expectations for more glorious rooms, but most guests understand what we are doing and think they get great value for money. I wish you had given us at least a chance and stayed one night. You can see from our other reviews that almost all of our guests love the hotel, enjoy the rooms, enjoy the service and want to come back. I know we cannot please all the people all the time, and I'm genuinely sorry that it didn't work out for you.

I am sorry about the issues with your bed - things like this happen even in the best hotels, but when there are problems it's good that we solve them and they don't impact on your stay. The Zona Colonial is undergoing a massive transformation, I think it will be much nicer when all of the work is complete, especially when the Conde is remodelled. I'm pleased you were able to explore and hope that you'll come back and stay with us again.

Thanks for your feedback. When you arrived, one of our staff (a man called Junior) did help take all 4 of your suitcases to your suite. Today was Junior's day off, but we did have another person who helped your driver to bring your suitcases to your vehicle. I think it's important to understand that a 15-bedroom property is not going to have full-time bus-boys, it wouldn't be practical. We do have staff who help guests with their bags - as they did help you - and in ten years this is the first time anyone has ever commented that they didn't think this worked. Apart from this point about the suitcases, I think you did enjoy your stay and I'm pleased that you chose to extend for an extra night. I would like to thank you for staying with us, it has been a pleasure to take care of you and we hope you'll be back soon.

Hello Shannon, many thanks for your review. Unfortunately it's a fact of life that we have to refurbish rooms and although we try to use low-odour paint, there is always a smell. The guys were putting down a new floor as well as decorating and I think this is why there were some objects left outside the room when they were working. I do apologise, we try to encourage them to work tidily and not leave any trash in guest areas, but sometimes the message doesn't get through as well as we would like. The good news is that we are renewing and updating rooms, offering our guests a better experience overall. Apart from these things, I think you enjoyed your stay, the hospitality of our staff and the location of the hotel.
