This place is closed since march 2019 due to pandemic however they are doing bookings and taking people's money. Don't bother with this. I complained and ask for refund that was denied.

Fijn dat het personeel - als ze je verstonden, dat was het merendeel - heel soepel en meedenkend was. Ligt direct aan zee, mijn kamer met balkon had prachtig uitzicht naar zee, zwembad en terassen. En tuinen, zwembad en prive srrand prima onderhouden. Je kon binnen 2 min naar Playa Guayacanes lopen - heerlijke verse vis eten- en in 10 minuten naar het dorpje zelf met gezellige supermarktjes + terrasjes. Flip van Keulen uit Leiden

Fue una noche pero agradable la estancia. Cerca de la capital y el aeropuerto. El hotel superó mis expectativas realmente, hacía años que no lo visitaba y me agrado estaría nuevamente allí. Lo tendré en cuenta para próximas estadías.

We had a very pleasant stay. The hotel staff all very nice. Especially, Tin ...The Room very clean. Great view... Food and drinks were very good. Very quaint. Beach is gorgeous. Will definitely return. Great Job to all at Playa Esmeralda Resort!

Good place to stay with the family for a weekend
The crevice was good.The decoration is beautiful and the beach and the pool are great,but I think the entrance to the hotel needs to be fixed, the refrigerators need to hibernate conectes to the electric outlet. Also the bar and the kitchen area should have better equipment .in addition as this is a family place they should have a kids pool and other amenities for kids. The fans of the room I was needs to be fixed

Pleasant!
Was a pleasant experience. Good for everyone. Wilke was very helpful. He went out of his way to TRY and make my experience worth while. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Clean resort. My room was on the second floor(222) overlooking the pool and the beach. Great view. Room was good. Air conditioning takes time to get going. I like it frosty. Bed was adequate, thin mattress. Linens were clean, not stained, and no loose hairs. Wifi was great in the room but weakened at the beach. slow but working. The bathroom was good. The shower is undersized. I am 6'4" 224lbs. Width was good but the clearance was not. Watch your head, keep your arms bent. In-room safe costs extra. You need to ask the desk for a key. Costs a few dollars a day. Not sure about the amount or laptop compatibility. Room had a mini fridge with water. I suggest getting some beer for late hours as the bars close at 10pm depending on the amount of people still drinking. Food is buffet style 3 times a day. The food was not great at first but got better. The short short ribs were great. They were really short. 2 bars and a a la carte restaurant on the premises was good. People from outside use the beach and restaurant making parking in the 5 space lot non-existant. Parking extends up the driveway to the secondary street. People walking thru from public beach adjacent to the resort. Public beach has a restaurant... DO NOT EAT THERE! RIP OFF! More like shanties people cook local fare, serve beer/soda. BE CAREFUL!

Scary looking place and surroundings
We arrived at this hotel and decided not to stay. The neighborhood we drove through before getting there looked questionable. Upon arrival, the property did not look inviting and given the neighborhood and late hour of arrival, we decided we didn't feel comfortable staying. We found another place about 20 minutes away which was much more inviting and secure.

Dejligt lille hotel med masser af plads på stranden og masser af sol senge, så mange at der ikke var nogen der reserverede solsengé om natten Maden var ikke noget særligt kunne sagtens have været bedre uden det ville koste ekstra for hotel ejeren. Et godt råd til hotel ledelsen er , bedre mad !!!! Vil helt klart anbefale dette hotel istedet for et kæmpe stort all incl hotel med alt for få sol senge m.m

The hotel location and staff was amazing.
My experience was ok, my only complaint was the food. Same menu everyday!!! and it was cold EVERYDAY!!!!

Vi havde et dejligt 2-dages ophold på Playa Esmeralda Resort. Hotellet har egen, privat strand som er smuk og perfekt til et par dages afslapning. Der er dog ikke meget andet at tage sig til end at ligge på stranden, så på trods af et dejligt ophold er vi glade for, at vi ikke havde booket mere end 2 dage. Værelserne er ok til prisen. Der er, hvad man har brug for. Vi var heldige at få et værelse med en skøn udsigt. Maden er begrænset. Du kommer ikke til at gå sulten i seng, men det er samme mad der serveres hver dag. Personalet søde og hjælpsomme bed spørgsmål.

Fue una lástima. Quería hacer dos recervaciones para mí (una sola persona) con distintas fechas y los hice con la misma fecha por equivocación. Me hubiese gustado que el hotel.com se diera cuenta que se estaba haciendo una reservación con la misma persona y la misma fecha para confirmar... No puedo estar en dos hoteles una misma vez... Siento un poco de culpa por no darme cuenta antes y a la vez que por internet no hay servicio seguro. Llamé a Esmeralda Hotel para ver qué se hacía, pero me respondieron que no tenían responsabilidad sobre las reservaciones hechas através de Hotel.com Honestamente me da un poco de miedo volver a reservar por esa vía y por esa compañía.

The hotel grounds are really lovely; the interior garden and the beach are highlights. The food was less exciting; the meals were uniformly uninteresting and not well prepared or presented. Everything else was great.

GREAT small hotel
Great small hotel, all inclusive but you can eat at the a la carte restaurant, ask for Andres the chef he can cook a great fish! Marte is the waiter in A la Carte and this was a REALY great experience for us. We bought mangoes and gave to Andres to prepare for Bkf and through out lunch & dinner FANTASTIC mangoes, they are called "Gotas de Oro", Tears of Gold, but depending of the seasons you have other ones! Ask for Wilson or Wiliam (Not sure about the name) an aprox 15 years old kid on the beach he will bring you fresh Coconut aprox 30 pesos each he will first charge you 50 pesos but say no the price is 30, but pls give him a tip, he is studying in school so he comes to the beach around 2pm. Pls encourage him to continue studying in school! What we did: we put the coconut in our fridge the first day and this was amazing after 4 hours! The second day they put them in the blast freezer in the main kitchen! No ice cubes needed as it dilutes the flavour, cut off the top and add a little shot of LOCAL Rhum, then you will feel like a local! I loved this hotel so much after a hard day of work, nothing like this great service and peacefull environment! Phone was not working, 5 hotels we stayed in DR only 1 had a working phone. Also Reception staff are VERY nice!!

Schöne Strandlage, sehr gepflegte Anlage, offenbar bemühte Neuübernahme, italienisch-dominikanische Leitung, durch die Kleinheit (ca 40 Zimmer) wirkt AI etwas gezwungen, funktioniert aber, sehr ruhige Lage (außer sonntags durch nebenliegenden, öffentlichen Strand), Meer durch vorgelagertes Riff ruhig, ein Hotel zum relaxen.

Definitivamente la pasamos super bien es este hotel, es un hotel pequeño, acogedor, mas para descansar, es para personas que estén buscando paz y tranquilidad, no para personas que busquen fiesta y demás. La decoración de la habitación es muy simple, no hay mucho ahí, pero realmente uno no va a pasársela en la habitación la mayor parte del tiempo. La ducha un tanto pequeña y no tiraba mucha agua, pero hacia su función. La comida muy buena, bastante variedad tomando en cuenta el tamaño del hotel (no se puede esperar 30 platos diferentes como en otros hoteles mas grandes). La playa hermosa, privada. En general, una estadía muy placentera, y volveré en alguna otra ocasión.

Tout compris relax et d'un chic simple
J'ai beaucoup aimé cet endroit d'une quarantaine de chambres. Je m'y suis sentie chez moi. Tout y était choisi avec goût: nourriture, vin, rhum, draps, oreillers, personnel... Formule tout compris très relax sans grosse musique et activités bruyantes toute la journée comme certains autres complexes. Nourriture en formule Buffet excellente, variée et abondante. Soirées dansantes au bord de la mer et journées paisibles à la piscine ou sur le sable fin. Marche possible sur la plage, mais l'hôtel a peu de plage pour les amateurs d'immenses plages. Peut-être que les verres de boisson tout compris pourraient être plus gros (difficile d'y faire un mélange, coule partout et contient 2 gorgées s'il y a de la glace) et que le Wi-Fi soit accessible de la chambre et non juste du lobby. Mais, bon, ça permet de décrocher!!! Et c'est ce que j'ai fait d'ailleurs...

Overall, it was a nice stay. I did enjoy the calm and quietness of this place. Room was ok, there is always something that do not work properly but the staff always try to accommodate and fix the problem. No problem with hot water in bathroom but not much pressure in the shower. The restaurant is nice and they serve a good small simple buffet that is pretty much the same food day after day, its ok for a week but longer than that it becomes... The hotel as a small restaurant by the beach that you can order from a menu at your cost. There is nothing close if you do not have a car, but with moto taxi you can go to other resto and small bars within 10 min. In general the staff was friendly. The beach is private but vendors are allowed on it, so you get solicited every once and a while...

Some of the staff were very nice but not overall impressed. WIFI only available in reception and very slow, rooms very basic, food was okay but not much variety. nice small beach but the beach next to the hotel is a public beach and full of litter and garbage. not much in the immediate area.

I stay at Playa Esmeralda from 12/9/2015 to 12/14/2015 they gave me Room #335 didn't realize that the Room had a bees net notify the front desk then they change me to Room #333 in this one the shower head had problem went to the front desk to cancel the rest of my stay and i was inform that they can not cancel and return my money back,that they can only give me credit for the day that i don't used encase that i ever go back to DR .this a hotel that i would not recommended to anybody.

Perfect relax
Esmeralda is our favorite getaway in Juan Dolio. A small and quiet all inclusive, where we can totally relax. The food is quite simple, but everything is quality and very good tasting. The beach is better than all the resorts we have experienced in for instance Bavaro and La Romana, without all the sea algae they have there. It's the intimacy, coziness and short distances between everything, that makes the Esmeralda the perfect place to relax.

Spent 5 days and 4 nights. Myself and a friend. A pleasure trip. This was my first time to Juan Dolio area but second trip to DR. I am from the USA. Beach beautiful. Massage great. room about as what you would expect in dR....September is a very hot time in DR so room was not as cold as I would have liked it but OK. Staff great and friendly... Food well thats the issue..mostly local type DR food buffet style...not the best but OK..I went for fresh fruit, toast and yogurts for breakfasts, lunch I stuck with fruits, salads, bread, desert....Had one dinner at buffet and had other 3 dinners at a la carte pay restaurant on hotel premises....great food...excellent fresh seafood... A la carte bar local beers (Brahma)...plentiful and cold... local name booze...a la carte pay restaurant premium booze, el presidents beer plus corona reasonable price. Great well kept grounds... So, not really comparable with a USA hotel i mean its the dR...But overall middle of the road....best thing is beautiful beaches..very relaxing...no night clubs around. I went with a girlfriend. Would not recommend for a single male guy going solo to DR..other places to go like Boca Chica or Sousa.

Lovely, peaceful location with postcard view
This is our second time staying at Playa Esmeralda. We are from the US, and when visiting the DR on vacation we bring our Dominican relations and friends (including small children and babies). It is important that everyone feel safe, comfortable and welcome--this resort is perfect for our needs. For a short visit of 2-3 days, it is great. It is a nice location, about a 45 min. drive from Santo Domingo with beautiful, postcard views of the ocean flanked by swaying palm trees. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with tiled paths, tropical flowers and trees for those photo opportunities. The only drawback is that the facilities could use an upgrade, as described below. However, since most of the time at a resort like this you should be splashing in the ocean, lying on the beach or enjoying a refresco or pina colada by the pool, these were minor inconveniences. It is a wonderful place for a short getaway.
