We stayed at the relais for three nights over a long weekend of wine exploration in the region. The grounds are absolutely stunning with the landscape gardens and the park, and the views over the surrounding hills are breathtaking. The facilities are amazing: fantastic spa with outdoors relaxation areas and the salt cave, outdoor heated swimming pool, generally everything is very pretty and well kept.
However the big let down is the service which is not 5 stars by any stretch, except at the Guido restaurant where the staff were great. Upon arrival reception wasn’t particularly welcoming or helpful, but the worst is the staff at the bistro / breakfast who seemed stretch, not particularly helpful and relatively dismissive. The coordination between staff is also poor as we were offered a table at the restaurant in the morning to find out at the reception that the restaurant was fully booked for days. After some complaints a table was found, however when we got there in the evening they didn’t know about our reservation which was quite embarrassing. The pool area was beautiful but you had to remove towels from loungers from previous occupiers before settling down. At this price level you’d expect someone to constantly make sure areas are cleaned when people leave. Staff should help you and be nice and welcoming whereas it felt like we were disturbing them (except the spa!).
Overall, we might come back because of the beauty of the place but hoping staff quality increased!
