The property was unusual and unique. Loved the location. The room just suited us nicely. The staff were absolutely fabulous, helpfull, full of humour and couldnt be faulted. Food was delicious and the even accommodated the fussy eaters in the group. Highly recommended. Local beer to be tasted!!!

The family room in the attic is difficult to access due to very steep stairs and the bed absolutely needs to be replaced. The food was good and the breakfast was OK. We were treated well, with a positive attitude from the staff. If you arrive in a bigger car like an SUV, parking could be a challenge due to a very narrow entrance.

Over the hill at 40!!
Made to feel very welcome from start to end! Dual aspect room which was clean and comfortable with ample storage and a fantastic shower room! Views of the river and the valley. Breakfast was plentiful and really set you up for the day, the sausages were meaty and very tasty! Easy access to Lynton on foot via Lynway (a flat walk with a steep incline/decline either end!!). Great area in general for walks, definitely for hill lovers!! Try the restaurant, the Thai food was fantastic. Our favourites included the prawn dippers and Thai fish cakes! The Fat Belly beers are moreish ... beware lol! Tip: If you're staying a few days consider the week pass for the Cliff Railway.

A Brilliant Weekend
There were 3 main reasons for choosing, The Cottage for our short break on my wife's Birthday, firstly location it's near the Lynton Cliff Railway, secondly the onsite Thai restaurant, thirdly, they brew their own beer. Akk in all it was a brilliant weekend.

Great place to stay.
Enjoyed our stay,made to feel welcome. Room large & airy and had everything we required. Wi-Fi erratic but for one night was OK. Breakfast was very good. Only comment stairs a bit steep and quirky to our particular room some would have difficulty.Would stay again.

Great place to stay when in the area
The Cottage Inn is a fantastic place to stay when visiting the North Devon area. We discovered it a little over two years ago and always promised to return. The accommodation is what you’d expect from an Inn - it doesn’t try to be anything that it’s not. It’s good, very clean functional accommodation in a wonderful location. The food is something else though - the Thai kitchen produces dishes that for me are the best that I’ve tasted anywhere in the country. I can’t say they’re authentic as I’ve never been to Thailand but if I ever get to go I hope that the food reminds me of The Cottage Inn. The Cottage Inn has it’s own brewery under the name of Fatbelly ales and they are also amazing and if you needed another one, a perfect reason to stay! Best Thai food in the country.....

We were made to feel very welcome. The Thai food was lovely. The hotel itself is slightly showing its age but the bed was comfortable.

Great good and people but needs some sprucing up
Great location, easy walk down to Lynmouth or along to Lynton. good check in, very welcoming, good beer if a little pricey. Great Thai restaurant on site, really good food. Good breakfast. Room could do with a spruce up and quite a few cobwebs. Bath was a tad grubby though. Quiet rooms, bed ok, WiFi good. Fantastic price, nice staff and owners. Car park good though a little narrow, take care when driving out - saw a convex mirror under the pub, if it was put up it would be a big help to lone travellers when exiting. Overall decent place.

Awesome Thai food!
Accommodation pretty good, room a little old and "quaint". Bar and food are top notch. Truly beautiful Thai food, best I've ever tasted, and a great beer selection, and Fat Belly brewed in house is classy stuff. Very nice owners and staff.

This place was great. Everything I hoped for. Food was great too. Gary is a fab landlord. We felt very “at home”. Would love to think we might go back. 15 minutes hard walk back from Lynmouth, but worth it. Great choice. Tanya

The landlord brews his own beer on premises and there is an authentic Thai restaurant inside. The food was excellent. Very friendly and located right on the path for a lovely walk to Lynton and Lymouth.

A little gem
Tucked away at the top of the hill, great beers brewed on the premises, home cooked Thai cuisine using local ingredients and I wish them every success in building their business.

Nice Rural Hotel
Nice hotel in a great location, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were disappointed to find that at the end of the very nice Thai meal which we had, VAT was not included in the menu price (a practice which I have never seen before). We felt it was a bit unnecessary to use these methods to try and get extra cash out of people. The meal was nice though so we didn't complain. Also the rooms need more storage space, and the writing desks are very small and cramped, and the WiFi connection was slow. Heating systems could be better also. Apart from those two areas of improvement, I'd give it 5 stars as everything else is very nice and worth the money.

Perfect Overnight Stay
Stayed one night in The Cottage Inn and it was perfect for us. Good friendly staff, great home brewed beer, nice clean big room and a lovely breakfast (fantastic coffee). Our only regret was we had already eaten as the Thai food served looked fantastic. Great location for a good walk into Lynton and onto Lynmouth.

excellent hotel
the hotel is in an amazing position to explore the whole area. we were there only 3 nights but wished it was longer. the hotel is very welcoming and feels as though you are a local yourself. the best thing about the hotel is the food.........the best in the area and a must for everyone visiting.

lovely hotel,lovely location
Had a night in this hotel and it was a wonderful experience.Lovely staff,nice room,seriously good Thai food in the restaurant.Walked into Lynmouth-the walk back was tough but worth it.The hotel itself is right on the river and the room itself over looked the river and wooded hills.The bar downstairs seemed very popular with locals,it was friendly and busy.We went to our room at about 10.30 and heard no noise from downstairs.The bed was comfortable and the room was warm and cosy.

Character Inn just outside town
3 days in lovely Cottage Inn. Very welcoming and friendly family owners, who had even phoned us the day before to advise that a band would be playing in the bar on our first night, and they would have booked us a night elsewhere if needed. Happily we didn't mind at all, and it was a good night! Food excellent, both Thai cuisine and Terrific traditional Sunday lunch. Even beer is brewed on the premises. Lynton within walking distance, even for the 50s plus age group!

Lovely, friendly inn
Stayed here for three nights in August 2016, really impressed as soon as we stepped through the door. The inn was busy but that didn't detract from the warm welcome that we received. We were shown to our room and the TV and wifi explained. The room was exceptionally clean and overlooked the tumbling waters of the river below. I will definitely be returning to stay here again.....

the cottage Inn is what it says it its so don't expect a 5* hotel, it is nice and homely set in a beautiful location. The hosts are fantastic and very accommodating, and all the locals are very nice. This is a perfect break if you are looking for a quite relaxing weekend, but if your planning on walking anywhere prepare for the steep hills.

Lovely location and great service
Stayed for a weekend recently. Room clean, cosy and overlooking West Lyn river so constant background of flowing water. Bed a little hard for us. Great service and welcome, delicious Thai food and some very tasty beer, stayed up quite late chatting with staff.

New owners, trying hard to succeed
This hotel has a lot of history, well worth investigation. The rooms are pleasant and comfortable with just a few wrinkles that the owners are sorting out as they find them. New owners have taken on a massive challenge with this hotel but are working hard to make it a successful family business.
