Older structure that is in need of some updating. Older persons may find climbing in and out of clawfoot tub difficult if not dangerous. AC may or may not work in hotter months and double windows might be hard to open or closed. Corner rooms above street corner noisy as are creaking floors

Really quaint spot, but bring earplugs :)
We had an overall lovely stay at the Sonoma Hotel. You can't do any better than this location for access to things around Sonoma Square. Free parking is plentiful nearby. The place has a very historic charm to it (keys! Actual keys to your room!). And while the rooms are small, you have everything you need. As others have mentioned, the noise is an issue. I'm not sure I would stay on the second floor again, given the opportunity for noise below you and above you. Every step the person above you takes is bothersome because, as others have said, the floors are old and creaky and it's not subtle noise. The doors are very thin, and each floor has a small common area where housekeeping does its thing and where people come and go, all of which can be heard quite clearly. We stayed in Room 27, overlooking the corner of 1st & Spain. That room is also next to the only set of stairs where people access their rooms. We had no issue at all with road noise, but there was a lot of noise from hotel guests. Perhaps the other rooms had better luck, but I doubt it, given that the others would be over the restaurant, which I imagine to be noisy in its own ways. Earplugs and white noise apps were a necessity for sleep here. In short: I WOULD stay here again, but not on the second floor, and maybe not in the rooms that are adjacent to the staircase, given the tools we have to manage the issues of general noise.

Solid choice in a great area
Great location, friendly staff and rustic rooms made for a fun stay. Only downside was the walls are somewhat thin so noise from the other rooms (especially the shower) was a bit loud.

This is a lovely vintage hotel in downtown Sonoma. Absolutely beautiful and terrific staff. Highly recommend! People with mobility issues, be advised that there is no elevator and a lot of stairs to the upper rooms.

Convenient location to the town square, restaurants and wineries. A bit noisy as it’s on the corner. Bed mattress needs rotation from head to toe so one’s head is not slanted at a negative grade.

There was no hot water, apparently, the water heater is old and after a few people take a shower there is no hot water for a couple of hours! We did not stay the night and went somewhere with hot water around 8 pm. The front desk told us to leave the water running, and we did so for around 30 mins it did not help and she said there is nothing she can do!

I appologize that you had issues with the hot water. The water heater is not old but it does take a little longer in some rooms, but not 30 minutes. After you left, we went up to the room to check and the water was immediately hot. We do have vintage faucets so perhaps you were not turning it the correct way. We would have been happy to move you to another room.

Nice old-school hotel well located on the corner of Sonoma Square. The room was Surprisingly quiet at night given the location. Not modern -- more of a throwback to a prior era of hotels. I kinda liked that.

Very quiet and comfortable. No elevator I saw so had to lift luggage up the stairs but I didn’t find that was difficult. Worth it for the hotel and location.

Okay but I wouldn’t stay there again.
Very small rooms but somewhat expected at historic buildings. The main issue is my wife is disabled and we were given a 3rd floor room, very steep stairs. She had a very tough time of it.

Great historic property. Check in staff was friendly, and the coffee in the lobby was a nice touch. Comfortable, well-appointed rooms. Downside is that the walls are very thin, and there was a couple that talked loudly in their room until 2 am which we could hear as though they were in our room with us. I would suggest you pack a sound machine or ear plugs for your stay. Otherwise, we really enjoyed this hotel.

The corner room had no heat and the bed was too small for a 5'10" person to stretch out in. I needed to sleep with my socks on to mitigate cold nights and get a comfortable night sleep.

The location of this property is fantastic. It’s close to all the restaurants and shopping in downtown Sonoma. The staff and manager was very very flexible and friendly. However, it is an old building with really really old carpet and a funny smell. I think all that would be taken care of if the carpet was changed. And because it’s an old building, the walls are paper thin.

We loved the proximity to downtown Sonoma and the historic building. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Cosy small room, clean and nicely appointed in great location. Ceiling fan above bed helped with air circulation, when we discovered we couldn't open window because of loud ongoing machine or blower noise (couldn't hear with window closed). Shower didn't work--was told that we didn't pull it out and that's why...we tried this, maybe we didn't pull hard enough--not sure. Took 45 minutes or so of fiddling and talking to staff to connect with internet.

This is a great location right in the heart of Sonoma Plaza. Parking can be a challenge. And there is no elevator in this historic building. Still a 5 star.

Very old historic hotel, thin walls, but comfy bed and close to everything in downtown Sonoma. Just above a great restaurant. Best thing about it is the convenience to downtown Sonoma. No elevator and 3 floors, so be sure you can take your luggage up 2 - 3 floors. Coffee is served in the morning in the lobby - no in-room coffee makers.

The building is old so a little quirky but I like that. I was very comfortable in it and I'm not always comfortable in hotels. The carpet could have been a little cleaner looking but it didn't make my socks dirty.
