mediocre. Could be lovely
Our room looked onto courtyard which would have been nice but not cleaned after wedding reception on the Saturday night. Wall ashtrays overflowing, broken glasses pushed to one side on the ground. The courtyard wasn't cleaned until the Tuesday and ashtrays still full when we left. Friendly staff and meals reasonable.Tables cleaned butvery sticky.

Avoid!
Possibly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Room was filthy, the people there were rude, bed was falling apart and unlike how it is advertised there is NOT free wifi in the rooms. Stained carpets, holes in the doors and curtains so thin you could see through them. Overall very uncomfortable and not enjoyable in the least.

Would not recommend
When we arrived, the hotel asked me to pay for the room (I had already paid the full balance on booking). Check in took over half an hour even though we were the only people trying to check in. We were then given the wrong room key so had to return once again to the reception desk. When we got into the room it was freezing cold. The rest of the room was underwhelming at best. There was no mention anywhere of when the kitchen closed, and breakfast was in no way worth £8.50!

Pleasant for a one night stop.
A pleasant stop off on the way to Cornwall. Quiet and peaceful. Staff Helpful. We had a dog, but nowhere safe to walk him, The Hotel was clean and comfortable, but very jaded with chipped paint in places.

The room was big enough and the bathroom was large. The breakfast was OK. Unfortunately the room was in the second floor and there were no elevators.I you just want to stay overnight - hotel is good for you.

Fantastic fresh food and a very relaxing break.
The most outstanding feature of this hotel was the care and attention paid by the staff, and uppermost was the standard of the food served in the restaurant. The chef took time to discuss any dietary issues and produced the most superb dishes.

Convenient for Plymouth / South West. Good value
Very convenient for Plymouth / South West just off A38 but in a rural setting. Stay very pleasant, room clean and comfortable, staff very friendly. Reception, Bar and Restaurant area very nice. Some areas do need addressing though as it lets the hotel down. Good value for the money.

Cold Room.... No Wifi!
I had booked in for two nights on business. No/very intermittent wifi meant I could get no work done (unless I was stood by the windowsill and using 4G on my phone!). Breakfast was an additional cost of £8.50 - I was unaware of this until I arrived (perhaps that was my fault for not checking when booking!). Drafty windows meant the room was cold and the A38 traffic noise was quite apparent. Dining area was very well kept, but rooms were more 'motel or poor B&B standard. Very disappointed as the website gives a different impression. Oh..... and it also seems to be a regular haunt for foul mouthed road contractors!

Wifi or not Wifi
I chose this hotel because it was close to my destination and rather than go with one of the major chains I prefer to support local businesses. They advertise free Wifi another reason why I chose this hotel. So following my business meeting I intended to catch up on work in the comfort of my room. However the wifi was not working and after a few tries I called reception. The response was classic! "Someone might be downloading a movie and it's only a domestic broadband hub" was the first excuse. Well, beef up your broadband and put restrictions on what guests can do! Next excuse "it's not very good, that's why it's free" has to be the most gobsmacking excuse I've ever heard! Food wasn't bad, room is basic but clean. Electrics are dodgy to say the least - too many extension leads cross crossing around the room.

Water torture
The window above the bed had a leak and was dripping all night, I had to put a towel in the window sill to stop it splashing on me. Got very little sleep and when I complained got no offer of any money back. Never again

Awful hotel
Tired and musky rooms - we booked 3 rooms. Bathrooms had old and worn out vinyl floors and bathroom suite. WiFi failed to work and had to go elsewhere locally to get the connection. The interior of the hotel does not match the exterior look. You are better off staying in one of well known chains of Hotels such as ibis or Travel Lodge locally.

avoid this hotel
awful hotel - old, tired, musky and in a bad state of repair; booked 3 rooms and all of them were bad. Don't waste your money here and stay in a bed & breakfast or a travel lodge

I hope to go back again soon
Very comfortable albeit a wee bit chilly in the room. Wifi was non existent. Had a housekeeper try to open the door without knocking before check-out time - slightly odd but not a great problem! Friendly reception staff. A good place to stay especially for the decent price!

Off the beaten track.
Friendly staff but facilities needed a major makeover. Decor was fine, water stained ceilings, musty smelling carpet, stale smoky air in hallways. No wifi in rooms. Restaurant was not available. Loud and boisterous.

VERY DISAPPOINTING
Have stayed here before and found it good - and a very convenient location for us. However, we understand there has been a change of management and were very disappointed this time. No hangers in the wardrobe for clothes. A dreadful smell of damp in the room due to a leak in the bathroom which had not been dealt with. Our door would not lock from the inside (and it was a ground floor room)so we had to barricade ourselves in for the night! But, worst of all, there was a fire alarm at 7.30am. We were at our bedroom door in bed clothes (as were other guests) awaiting instructions from staff and the staff completely ignored the alarm and told us nothing. No one came out and said 'we're sorry but it's a false alarm....so sorry you were disturbed'. They continued as if nothing had happened. You cannot have instructions on the back of the bedroom door stating guests must collect in the car park in the event of a fire alarm and then let your staff do NOTHING when a fire alarm goes off. That is appalling - and dangerous. We reported this to the girl on reception who did not seem to see the seriousness of it. They will have to get their act together if we are to stay there again.

Zimmereinrichtung ein wenig älter, aber vollkommen akzeptabel. Mitarbeiter sehr, sehr Hilfsbereit. Obwohl der Check In nur bis 22 Uhr, war es mit einem Anruf möglich das wir so gar um 1 Uhr Nachts in Zimmer gekommen sind!!

Highly recommend
Very welcoming,comfortable downstairs room. Shower excellent,comfortable bed & nice complimentary biscuits & toiletries. They couldn't have been more helpful when I had to unexpectedly had to cancel the second night due to family reasons. Good choice for breakfast.

We were glad it was only for one night. The shower was tiny so difficult to move around, floor uneven, bed very squeaky and facilities generally poor considering the price. The staff were very friendly and we received excellent service. The restaurant meal was interesting, a fabulous starter followed by a main of standard basic meals but mine was burnt. We were too tired to complain. The hotel and restaurant were not busy.

End of holiday
We were staying here after getting off the ferry from Roscoff at the end of our holiday before setting off home to Scotland. The room was in need of redecoration. There were marks on the wall behind the bed where people had leant their heads. The shower room was clean and the breakfast very good and the service at breakfast good.

Good location
The hotel is located next to the motorway which is is nice if you use it as a base for walking in Dartmoor like we did. Staff is friendly but the walls are so thin you can literally here everything that goes on in adjacent rooms. The restaurant provided surprisingly good meals.

NOISE
We were put in a room that at first seemed right enough, but on closer inspection found that the bed linen was grimy, the bed itself about to collapse. If moved side to side the cry of total despair from its joints was alarming crying out that there was nothing of any security holding it together. it took on a life of its own. Then the boiler kicked in... and having the room adjacent to it .. well all I can say is that imagined the noise it made was probably similar to being inside a world war two Lancaster Bomber on an all night sortie. On reporting the racket to the Receptionist she came in to the room listened intently,feigned complete astonishment went on a mission to find the source, came back and said` yes it`s probably the Boiler next door to your room, unfortunately though we have no other rooms available `and left! So all I say is...people do yourself a big favour and keep driving and find a decent place to stay...say no to` Bates Motel`...

Great stay in a beautiful location
Lovely location, beautiful food and great service. Room was a little small, but comfortable. Really quiet apart from hearing guests enter the apartment block. Other than that we didn't hear any noise from other rooms and the double glazed windows hid the traffic noise. Great stay and highly recommended for the price and location.

Stay in Devon last weekend
Room was a twin which met our needs, the shower was excellent. Overall the room was tidy and clean. For the costs ,it was good value ,and the staff, and service were good.

OK for the price - but could be much better
On arrival the reception/bar area was nice. Staff friendly & helpful. The room however wasn't to the same standard. decor was old and in need of modernisation. It was clean and everything worked. The beds (twin room) seemed to be past there best as I think the springs had gone as extremely soft. I ate in the restaurant, again the staff were great, food was average. The breakfast however was disappointing. Asked for no beans, which i got and the scrambled eggs were not to my liking and rest was again average. While I wouldn't stay here again as I think there is better out there for a little more ££, I can't really complain at the price(which I didn't).

Good value for money with great food.....however
Very good service and lovely food making excellent value for money. Good location for exploring the area. Condition of the stairs and landing let the overall evaluation down. I would have liked somewhere to work on my laptop as it was difficult on a chest of drawers. Few coat hangers.

Not quite good enough
When I got to the hotel the staff were friendly and the room poked nice but the hearing didn't work and the to didn't work. They did supply a heater in the room but it wasn't very powerful. The room I was then moved to was huge but smelt of must or mould . The food was good and staff helpful it was cheap I know but I guess you expect a basic about of worthness

Good location for Plymouth and overall a nice quiet room. Food was OK and the hotel staff were helpful

Overnight stop off
An overnight stay. Due to a road closure and a divertion we were later arriving than we had planned. I was pleasently surprised when the hotel reception called me to make sure I was still coming and what time I would arrive as reception closes at 11pm. I told them where I was and they reassured me I would soon be at the hotel. The room was warm, spacious, comfortable and clean although did smell a little musty by the door. We slept well and although the shower was over the bath it was fairly easy to control. Breakfast was ok although my poached egg was under cooked, the portion of beans was small (and not heinz) and the sausage small. A little more bistro style than roadside cafe which you may have expected? They also had cereal, fruit juice, toast etc. All the staff were warm and welcoming during our stay.
