This was an awesome setting - historical and comfortable- it was cheap, great location, great staff- everything you need was there! Will definitely be back!

Great little hotel! Self check-in process was easy and very convenient as I arrived to St. John’s later in the evening. Rooms were very clean, and building is in good condition. Location is fantastic with only minutes to lots of food and drink options on Duckworth or Water Street. Definitely a great option for the price!

Very noisy evening, but this was due to outside factors not connected to the hotel (construction work.) Room was small but clean (do not expect a full scale hotel room!) however it was welcoming, modern, had all typical amenities and a comfortable bed. Internet also did not work for us - but that was a nice change. Restaurant was very accommodating, even when they were getting ready to close. Nice family run business - which is why we chose it over a chain hotel. Thank you! Would stay here again.

Advertised as toiletries and no conditioner available. Extremely noisy as there were parties downstairs past the scheduled quiet time until 1AM and when I had a shower at 8:30pm there was almost no pressure and barely warm. I moved hotels and left an email to see if I could get at least a one night refund as I was scheduled to stay another night and forfeited that evening's stay. There is NO Front Desk so I was not able to complain. I still have not received a response. And they have a note on the dresser asking for a Tip.

We are a very low maintenance couple when it comes to travel, and while the location of this hotel is SO convenient, it was definitely not worth the money. The walls are paper thin. We were awoken to a someone screaming followed by vomiting violently in the room next to us at 3am. I understand this is not the hotel’s fault- just something to be aware of if you are a light sleeper. The room itself had a very musty smell and the sheets/comforter and pillow cases themselves smelled like body odor. We also found hairs in our sheets. The toilet constantly tried to refill throughout the night. Overall just a noisy, smelly, unpleasant experience I rarely write negative reviews but this room, while cheap and found in a gorgeous older building in the prime location , was definitely not worth what we paid. We will not be returning.

If you are looking for a hotel-chain like stay, this really isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a unique stay that's hassle free and is charming then this is the stay for you. As they state on their website -- its an old building and the presence of life can definitely be felt within it. From the laughter coming from the Duke of Dukeworth bar below my room window in the alley, to the hum of the restaurant below, to the man who slept in the other room that definitely needs a CPAP because I could hear him snoring through the wall, I loved the sense of life within the Duckworth's walls. I have stayed in a lot of places all over Europe and North America, but I cannot say that I've stayed in an inn above a bar. As someone who just took a medieval history course, I was absolutely thrilled. Check in was seamless. I love the "let yourself in" style of accommodation (I really don't care to awkwardly stand at a counter while you type in what I already gave you online). I found my room and my key without any issues and all the instructions given via email were accurate. The room was clean, the bed was so comfortable and the inn is located in a great spot in town. I was headed for the airport in the morning, so an 11min drive was great. The parkade across the street was ~5$ overnight, reasonable and close to the building. I did not eat at the restaurant below as I had my sights set on other places, but when I come back to town I will definitely be staying again!

This place is adorable and private. Right in downtown St. Johns and just up the street from my fav restaurant! I love that you can rent a room without needing to check in.

I like that it's close to downtown. What I didn't like was the last time I stayed I only paid 80 something for the same room I had Thursday night that I paid 150 for.

The shower was broke there was mold throughout the shower. The entire hotel smelled of mold. Right over top a couple night clubs that went well into the morning hour. Very narrow staircase which was hard to deal with and carry luggage. Rooms are very very small

The hotel had no staff and when I was trying to get through the door with baggage there was no way to get in the door with more then one bag. I was on a hunting trip and had to leave some of my gear in the streets with the homeless. The stair well is extremely narrow and the rooms only had room for my luggage on the ground and then I had no room to walk around. We are directly over a club and the music went well into the early morning hours. The shower head was broken will would just blow off durning your shower the door wasn’t working properly and the water from the shower would go everywhere. The shower had mold in the corners and the entire place smelled of mold.

shower was dripping, the cleanliness of the room was terrible, mold on the baseboards, fruit flies in my room, on the towels, in the sink, in the shower. Overall it was disgusting, unclean and unlivable. I will NEVER RECOMMEND the hotel or stay there ever again. I loved the dining room and bar and cleaning staff. They were friendly, professional and helpful.

Yes certainly unique .. we were on 3rd floor & carrying bags up was challenging .. & we are mobile Seniors. Our car was broken in to on the street, & things stolen .. window smashed. We had no valuables in rhe car, but coats, shoes, hiking boots & souvenirs all stolen. We were limiting how much we could carry up the narrow stairs. The High Sherrif's office (who were most helpful) said the car park across the street is not secure either for visitors.

The Duckworth Hotel is conveniently located to many things in St. John's. The rooms are basic, but they are clean and there is a certain charm to them given the age of the building. We didn't see many staff while we were there as check-in and check-out are self administered.

The room was reasonably clean but the carpet hall inside the door was disgusting/filthy. No instructions on use of window air conditioning and dials were impossible to read. No hint on what stations were available and TV was marginal. Bed was adequate. An old building that reeks of it’s age and needed updating.

The room was large and updated. Comfortable bed. Very clean. great location to access restaurants and pubs. The window let in some traffic noise, but it wasn’t a lot as the street isn’t busy. The hallways could use updating.
