I love this propertty because it has so much history and has a lovely garden to the back of the building . Local shops and restaurants are withing walking distance.

Loud music, grubby hotel
Had the Hotel contacted me when I booked a room and told me there would be loud music playing until gone midnight, which was then replaced by the banging of the lift, I certainly would not have booked, The hotel is Eco Friendly due to the lack of working light bulbs,The furniture had more chips than McDonaldsThe room was supposedly the "Honeymoon suite" but I'm guessing the divorce rate locally had gone up after spending the night in this grubby, tatty overpriced room When I booked out the very non-professional staff member sat un his overcoat and scarf, didn't enquire how my stay was, only good point, the breakfast was good quality

Terrible
No welcome on arrival. There was very short notice of a Christmas party so the night was very loud up until 12.30am. No acknowledgment on departure. The room was full of cobwebs on the ceiling and the breakfast room was very cold. The bed and pillows were also not that comfy. Overall the hotel was very tired.

Fairly basic but ok for a night
Fairly basic accomodation and quite tired in places. We were in the honeymoon suite as we assumed that would be in a nice quiet area of the hotel but in fact it was between the lift and the main stairs so probably the noisiest location! Take earplugs. The breakfast was good.

Over promised, under delivered.
The hotel was disappointing - no-one at reception (automated check in) and the breakfast was satisfactory but not great and failed the sausage test. The bedroom design was odd and the bedside tables were unfinished (can't upload photo). I don't think the property justifies a 4-star rating.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but check in was disappointing. In the lobby as we arrived, they had self check in set up on a computer at the desk. A staff member was nearby the desk, but never welcomed us or made eye contact as we entered the lobby, or asked if we needed assistance with anything. Finally he engaged us as we were trying to figure out how to get to our room. Our room was on the 3rd floor of the hotel. The room itself was lovely, but the weather had been very hot for days, and when we got to the room all the windows were shut, and the air conditioner was off. It took a long time for the room to be tolerable temperature wise. As they knew they'd booked the room, it would have been nice for them to have attempted to cool it down before we arrived. Other than that, all was good. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, and the staff friendly and helpful.

Wonderful place!
Absolutely amazing! The staff were wonderful, friendly and very accommodating. Bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was very good as well. We would defiantly stay there again!

From the moment we walked in, the friendly staff greeted us and treated us like one of the family. It's a beautiful hotel which was originally a school many years ago with beautiful appointed gardens and the river which is directly behind the gardens. The breakfast was fabulous with several options and an abundance of fresh fruit, cereals and yogurts to choose from. We will defiantly stay again!

Overall a great stay
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, family room was fantastic and highly recommend. Service was efficient and friendly. Good breakfast. Pillows were too firm for my liking but that’s personal preference.

Lovely hotel glad to be coming back
I missed coming to this hotel due to Covid, but to come back. The hotel has period features so don’t expect a new glass building, that said the service and staff are amazing. Food is also great, so come hungry

Room is cold in February with no apparent way to adjust the temperature/thermostat. Hot water for bathing seemed to be limited.

Honeymoon suite, honest review.
The honeymoon suite was mostly clean. Glass shelves either side of bed were very dusty. Huge hanging cobweb in bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The shower was clean and hot. Unfortunately a huge leak from Shower door meant lots of mopping with towels. Room was cold on arrival and took some fiddling to work out the heating. The bath was dreamy lovely size and copious amounts of steaming hot water. The carpet was stained / damaged and really should be replaced it looks awful and not expected in a room of this price. The bathroom needs attention to the flooring and decoration. You can tell in it’s day the room was beautiful but it needs some love now. Towels smelt funny but were perfectly clean although dreadfully thin. Overall we enjoyed our night very much but both felt the room should be bought up to standard. Staff were lovely , friendly and polite. Would definitely return , would be thoroughly impressed to see the mentioned improvements. The view of the garden was appreciated and being so close to the river must be lovely in better weather. We didn’t use the restaurant so cannot review.

Excellent food
A thoroughly enjoyable one night stay. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Room very comfortable, windows that actually open!! Interesting old style lift Breakfast exceptionally good with a wide choice Only small moan, the coffee was a little weak for our taste. Evening meal also very good, not overly expensive and generous portions. We would definitely stay again.

One night break away in Bury St. Edmunds.
Staff were really good and hard working, the breakfast was very nice and had a good choice. However, the room considering it was described as a Superior Double room was rather shabby as the edging to the bedside tables and main desk / drawer unit in the room had completely peeled off leaving raw chipboard and could have looked a lot better. Bedroom windows were very large sash windows and the windows could not open due to the sash ropes being non existent which lead to the room being rather humid and stuffy. Had to use the waste bin to keep the window open for a while for some fresh air. Room with a Garden View. the view to the garden was very restricted by roofs.
