The staff, restaurant are always outstanding, feels like home but the property itself is quite dated. Would require refurbishing. Price is attractive.

Needs a bit of an update as a bit run down in areas, but the price reflects that so worked for us. Pub great, location next to Devils Punchbowl excellent and staff very friendly.

The staff were very helpful and polite. The breakfast was excellent but the room was dated, carpets dirty, pillows flat and needed replacing. The curtain pelmet was hanging off and there was a cobweb in the sink overflow in the bathroom. But the bedding was very clean. However considering the price i would stay again.

Perfect retreat while studying
Nice stay while studying at the university of Surrey, Pieter was very helpful and I enjoyed some nice evening meals in the gastrobistro downstairs. Room was quiet and beautiful location on the Common ideal for walks. In honesty, the decor could benefit from updating along with new pillows. But I would stay again. All staff very friendly and hospitable.

Rather disappointing
Let's start with the positives. The breakfasts were good, and the young ladies serving were very friendly and efficient. The dining room was well decorated and clean. Unfortunately, the bedroom was very disappointing. The bedside unit had the front of the drawer missing. The windowsills were filthy. There was a very strong smell of mould and damp in the room. Around the base of the taps and the overflow in the bathroom was black grime. I could go on, but suffice to say, it was all very tired and in need of a good scrub, especially the carpet.

Nice location and a nice hotel. Yes some of the decor needs a bit of updating but on the whole it was fine. The room was pleasant enough. Some areas need a lick of paint. The food in the restaurant was very nice.

Based around a listed building in an excellent location for access to the Devil's Punchbowl walking trails. The room was large and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and the towels were lovely. Good quality toiletries were provided. However there were some cheap things that spoiled it. The biscuits weren't anything special, and there was no spoon, just a disposable wooden stick. The 'glasses' in the bathroom were flimsy and disposable too. The extractor fan wasn't working (which we reported) and the grouting around the bath could do with a clean.

Refurb well overdue
The bar & restaurant areas are clean & respectful The bedrooms on the other hand are a good 10 years past needing a refurb First room had cobwebs & insects hanging from it in the bathroom & some much black mould stains around the bath. The bedroom part was so date & had a very tired feel. Went to reception & was offered another room. This was a faction better but not much. Beds was comfortable enough & sheets clean.

Worst room ever! Unbelievably damp-smelling and musty. Dirty marks on walls. Broken window. Bad-smelling bathroom. Outdated dirty decor. Surrounding countryside is gorgeous, but this place is AWFUL. eBookers should take this hotel off their listings now!

The hotel was once on the main road but now on a no through road .The hotel was a nice size with plenty of safe parking .The rooms were a good size with good wi fi . The only issue I had was that the shower was of poor quality with low pressure .It was a mere dribble .I did complain and was told that maintenance would deal with it . It was not fixed I reported again but the following day I was told it could not be fixed .A new room was offered but it was on the ground floor .I declined as our room . was very quiet . A shame as this was the only issue .

Very comfortable bed. Good facilities but looking a bit tired and in need of tlc. Staff were excellent, genuinely welcoming and helpful in both Reception and Restaurant. Good value for money.

The devils punch bowl a great place to stay
Great place to stay dine and drink. All the staff inc managers are some of the most pleasant I have Come across in a long time. Nothing was to much trouble and that’s what hospitality should be. The only criticism I would have especially if your on business and that’s the Wi-Fi. It is very poor in the bedrooms but I would not let that spoil my stay great place and well done to the team

Room and bathroom were clean, room was rather warm though. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel could do with a little renovation but given it’s low price and good location can be forgiven

After a rather disappointing check in that resulted in being given a key to a room already occupied and walking in on someone just about to have a shower, I was then about to be given another room which was also occupied. By this time the guest who I had already walked in on was at reception to put the receptionist right to inform him my 'new' room was also occupied. A basic hotel with dated decour but it was clean and a good nights sleep was had. Fine for traveling solo

Extremely tired, badly in need of renovation.
Stayed here for one night and thankfully only one night. Lacklustre greeting by the receptionist, although bar staff excellent and courteous. Checked into a Family room .... oh ... dear ... god. Have you seen 'The Shining'? Yeah. The hotel looks like that. The room we stayed in had last been refitted (and cleaned, by the looks of it) around the time that movie was in the cinema. The sheets were clean but I felt like I needed a shower after walking over the carpet. Rusty shower appliances, dirty grout, TV the size of a postage stamp. Grim. In the corridors - paint peeling, worn door furniture, stains all over the carpet ... really cannot recommend. If you're in dire need of a room for the night then so be it, but I would never stay here again.

Great staff
Comfy beds. Clean room, complimentary tea, coffee, doap & shampoo in shower. Clean towels. Veey helpful staff, especially when in the restaurant area. Close to a bus stop a few shops a short walk away. The National Trust Devils Punch bowl was right opposite hotel. Amazing views a must place to visit!
