Durham has wonderful history and is a beautiful area.
Rich in history. Easily done in one day. Quite a few empty stores. Per one of the locals “town is dying.”
Crook Hall and Gardens is lovely.
Wonderful manageable city. The Cathedral is a wonder of Romanesque architecture and the riverine setting and walks along the the embankment are tranquil and spectacular. The city is a bit hilly but that ads to its charm.
Nice town. We've stayed in Durham several times.
