Batemans Bay

Travel Guide
Pebbly Beach featuring a sunset, a sandy beach and general coastal views
Discover excellent seafood, secluded beaches, native wildflowers and diverse wildlife at this bay where the Clyde River meets the South Coast.

Sprawling out from the Clyde River estuary, Batemans Bay features some of the South Coast’s most beautiful and varied coastline. Discover the bay’s magnificent scenery from the sands of a quiet cove or explore the waterways by boat. Sample Batemans Bay’s famous oysters, try your luck at fishing in the bay or surf the South Coast breaks.

Select from several gorgeous golden-sand beaches around the bay. Swim in sheltered coves or check the swell for surfing. Dive or snorkel in the Batemans Bay Marine Reserve to see the diverse underwater world beneath the waves. Travel south from the town centre to find secluded beaches and fishing spots. You might catch mulloway, bream or flathead.

Spot mangroves and oyster flats along the coastline on a picturesque cruise or kayak around the bay and into the Clyde River. See these sights on land from the Batemans Bay cycleway. Sample the delicious oysters at one of Batemans Bay’s dining establishments or fishmongers. Then watch a pretty sunset from the end of the pier jutting into the bay.

The nearby Catalina Country Club has 27 holes across its expansive course. Check out the breathtaking landscapes of Murramarang National Park, where native bushland meets pebbly beach and mobs of eastern grey kangaroos bound through the bush at dawn and dusk. At Birdland Animal Park, ride a fun train through the reserve and spot native Australian bird species. Don’t miss a daytrip to Didhol (Pigeon House Mountain) or the preserved pioneering village of Mogo. Stroll through beautiful banksia forests to Burrewarra Point and enjoy views of Guerilla Bay. If you’re lucky, you might spot migratory whales from here in the cooler months.
