Reedsport

With dramatic dunes, coastal vistas and rivers teeming with fish, this small Oregon town reveals some of the best natural beauty available on the West Coast.

The small coastal city of Reedsport, bordered by the Pacific Ocean and located at the confluence of three rivers, features some of the state’s most diverse scenery.

Reedsport is in the heart of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. This park, with one of one of the largest expanses of coastal sand dunes in the country, stretches for 40 miles (64 kilometers). Ride an off-road ATV or motorcycle to explore the area. Several trails feature varied terrain and welcome independent riders as well as those on guided tours.

Cast your line to understand why the Umpqua River is very popular with fisherman. One of the Oregon coast’s largest recreational fishing ports is located on the river.

Reedsport is just 4 miles (6 kilometers) from Winchester Bay on the Pacific Ocean. This community is the perfect place to spend a day sunbathing on the beach or crabbing along the shore.

Follow the highway a few miles outside town to Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area. This preserve provides a protected home to a herd of Roosevelt Elk in their natural habitat. Capture this iconic sight of the Wild West with your camera.

One of the best ways to appreciate the area’s beautiful scenery is to explore it on foot. Take Overlook Beach Trail or Tahkenitch Creek Loop Trail, two of the town’s most popular hikes.

Although downtown Reedsport is small, it has plenty of its own attractions. Explore antique shops, boutiques, cafés and restaurants in the walkable city center.

Stop at the Umpqua Discovery Center to learn about local history through interactive exhibits. Every year over Father’s Day Weekend, the Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpting Championship attracts chainsaw artists from several continents.

Reedsport is located on Highway 101, one of America’s most famous highways. This north-to-south route takes you to some of the country’s most stunning landmarks on the West Coast, including the Golden Gate Bridge in California and Olympic National Park in Washington.

The managers of the Winchester Bay Inn are not honest people, they promised to refund my money for the unused portion of my stay, but then later denied. I am not recommending this place to anyone,
