Had read good reviews of this hotel, so decided to book and it was great. Was only here 1 night, but would definitely stay again.
Bedroom & bathroom clean and comfortable and a nice comfy bed too. Dinner was great as was breakfast next morning. Staff all friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Easy parking either in dedicated patron’s car park or on street. Great location for exploring the area and Castle Douglas itself is a nice town with lots of independent businesses and plenty cafes, delis etc,
Took a trip to nearby Kirkcudbright in the evening…only 15 minutes away and heading to Threave Gardens…only 5 minutes drive or could even walk it.
All in, a few pleasant days in the area.
This is a very well managed hotel. It was busy when I stayed. I had a problem, beyond the control of the hotel, but the staff managed it perfectly. I would stay again.
We loved this hotel. The staff and owners were all so lovely and helpful, giving us some bread so our daughter could feed the same at the nearby loch. The meals were great and the rooms comfortable. Wholly recommended.
David and his team looked after us well, providing a nice comfortable room with good quality beds, a bathroom and towels. Downstairs is the local bar and dining area where a good selection of beers are served. The Kings Arms is located in the central part of Castle Douglas and includes secure parking. We had a nice stay.
We visited The Kings Arms hotel on a 3 night stay whilst motorcycling in the area. We were met by the friendliest member of staff who couldn't do enough for us, the room was a good sized, clean and very comfortable with 3 beds and a large modern bathroom. The evening menu had plenty of choice, sampling several options over the 3 nights, the food was excellent, i highlt recommend the haggis tower. After a good nights sleep we went to the restaurant for breakfast, various cereal, fruit and a Scottish staple porridge along with a full cooked Scottish breakfast again excellent. The bar has a good selection of beers lagers ciders and spirits. As a biker it was reassuring to know that hotels carpark was locked and secured overnight. Overall an excellent stay for bikers golfers or fishing clubs etc.
If you are down Castle Douglas way, planning to stay over, then this place is perfect. Easy and friendly checkin, spotless room and a team that went out their way to make us feel welcome and valued. Easy to see why it gets top marks. We had dinner which was excellent and the tap beer was good to! Cooked Breakfast was first class. Best sausages I have had in ages. Will defo be back.
Last minute break with our dog for tge Soap box Derby. Everything went to plan with lots of communication. No issues booking in, made welcome even the dog and everything explained if we stayed out late. Quality filling breakfast.
Absolutely fantastic hotel with full restaurant and bar. Dog friendly with a private car park. Delicious food with quick and friendly service. Room always clean and comfortable with possibly the greatest shower I have ever used - hot and strong! So grateful for the fantastic stay, we had come up to allow me to take my driving test and their fabulous breakfast helped prepare me! I passed my test! Thank you again.
I didn't realise the room wasn't en-suite. for £80 I think a single room with a bathroom 20m along the corridor is way over priced. No shower in the very dated bathroom, TV couldn't get BBC or Alba, room small and very dated.
On the positive the service was good and breakfast was very good.
Difficult to fault; as the saying goes, does exactly what it says on the tin. No pretensions, no luxury, just down-to-earth excellence. Efficient management, first-class staff who are attentive and most helpful. Kitchen staff willing to adapt to the foibles of guests. An all-round excellent performance. And easy parking to boot!
Just two little quibbles. I can understand why folk don't like name badges but those in charge should introduce themselves; they may be well known to regulars but that is no help to complete strangers. And what a shame that in a well-produced menu the chef has not succeeded in mastering the art of crispy batter.
