Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you're prepared. We've put together a list of handy travel tips that will get your Cambridge vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- The secret to having an awesome travel experience is to be prepared. Start with the essentials: passport, official ID, bank cards and daily medications. Next, take on board items that'll help while away those hours, like some electronic gadgets or a good read. You'll also want to bring your chargers, a neck pillow and a pair of headphones. Finally, be sure to toss in toiletry items like a toothbrush, deodorant and a fresh set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Pointed or sharp objects, like your beloved Swiss Army knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as flares, chemicals agents and strong acids, are also prohibited.
What to wear on a flight:
- The main aim is to feel as comfortable as possible. Layer up with loose, breathable clothing and don't forget to pack a jacket just in case you get chilly. Always opt for roomy, flat shoes as your feet may swell a little during the journey. Leave the high heels and heavy boots in your luggage.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long flights is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by extended periods of inactivity. To prevent this, take every opportunity to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs. Compression socks and tights are another simple way to help reduce this risk.
