- Flying can be a comfortable experience if you pack the right gear. First of all you'll need basic toiletry items, such as lip balm and hand cream, a spare pair of socks and something to read. Secondly, find a spot in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, any vital medications and perhaps a blow-up neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel documents and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by security. Sharp objects, like your treasured pocket knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as flares, chemicals agents and matches, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your main priority is to be as comfortable as you can. Pick slip-on footwear, dress in loose, breathable clothing and don't forget to take a pullover in case it gets chilly in the cabin.
- The result of sustained periods of immobility, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot condition that can affect passengers during long flights. Reduce the risks by staying hydrated, keeping your lower limbs moving and wearing compression socks or tights.
