- Traveling on a plane can be a great experience if you carry the right stuff. Firstly, you'll need toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a clean pair of socks and a few magazines. Secondly, find room in your carry-on bag for your electronic gadgets, chargers, your medications and maybe a blow-up neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked luggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) won't be allowed on. Pointed or sharp objects, like your treasured Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and matches, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- The main aim is to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Don layers of breathable clothing and pack a cardigan in case it gets cold in the cabin. Go for a pair of flat, slightly roomy shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell during the journey. Leave the high heels and heavy boots in your checked luggage.
- You've probably heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by reduced mobility or inactivity. There's lots you can do to lower your risk. Wear a quality pair of compression socks, stay hydrated and keep your legs and feet moving. Wander around the cabin or perform exercises in your seat.
