Beaches, castles and stunning natural scenery welcome visitors to this peaceful town on the shores of North Wales’ Llŷn Peninsula.

Billed as the Pearl of Wales, Criccieth has beaches, historic landmarks and a beautiful setting. This traditional seaside town curves around Cardigan Bay and sits in the foothills of Snowdonia National Park. Criccieth attracts many loyal vacationers, who return each year to enjoy the timeless pleasures of beachfront accommodations, countryside walks and watersports.

Dominating the town are the ruins of Criccieth CastleOpens in a new window, built on a headland in the 13th century and the scene of many battles between the English and Welsh. Climb a steep path to discover the remains of the gatehouse, towers and ramparts. Enjoy unrivaled views of Cardigan Bay and the Llŷn Peninsula. Spot Harlech Castle in the near distance visit it on a daytrip.

Purchase the book Criccieth, a Heritage Walk from the tourist information office and discover additional important landmarks on a self-guided tour. Highlights include centuries-old fishermen’s cottages and Criccieth Memorial Hall, which displays art nouveau features and hosts performing arts events. Go to Market Square, where British Prime Minister David Lloyd George once made speeches. In the nearby village of Llanystumdwy is the Lloyd George Museum, a commemoration of the politician’s life.

Criccieth’s beaches stretch along both sides of the castle and are the town’s focal point on sunny days. Both offer safe swimming and are popular with people canoeing and windsurfing. To the east see Main Beach, with rock pools and backed by an esplanade. To the west visit Marine Beach, which features a row of Victorian-era townhouses.

Find opportunities for outdoor pursuits in the nearby surroundings. Play 18 holes at Criccieth Golf Club and go on a survival challenge at Dragon Raiders Activity Park. Snowdonia National Park, on the outskirts of town, is the setting for scenic drives and mountain hikes.

Criccieth is also a great base for exploring the Llŷn Peninsula. Follow sections of the Wales Coast Path to archaeological sites, beaches and coves. Drive a short distance to pretty coastal towns, including Abersoch and Pwllheli.

"This is in an excellent location and we found it good value for money. There were no staff on reception and it took a while to find someone but we had complicated matters by following behind someone else. There was actually a buzzer and a mobile number on the door which we had not seen. When we located ..."

Overall great stay
"Our stay here was lovely. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The only down side, is the choice of Rose wine. Only one (Zinfadel) which I do not like, so I was unable to enjoy my normal Rose with my dinner. Strongly suggest, that they give another choice."
