The room was clean. While located on a beautiful spot in southern Vermont, the 'Inn' was a work in progress. I can appreciate that the owners were working to reinvigorate the space, they did so with almost no regard for the fact that there were guests on the premises. Excuses such as 'things are slower in Vermont' and Covid-19 were trotted out as reasons for, well, everything. For example, not being remotely clued in about the area, making the lobby and its deck off-limits (it simply had not been cleaned), construction and power line projects (think gargantuan trucks) coming and going, and not offering even a simple continental breakfast or an ice machine or creamers for a cup of in-room self-made coffee. This was especially frustrating, as breakfast was noted as included with the booking. When asked, the owner explained that that amenity had been suspended due to Covid and apologized for the 'confusion'. There was no adjustment in our bill. Another source of 'confusion' was that, while advertised as 'pet friendly', there was no mention of a $20 fee until we arrived. Not a huge deal, except the accommodations were much less Inn-like, more a motel, with hidden costs, absences of promised amenities and little consideration for the fact that there were actually guest trying to enjoy a quite afternoon, with modest hope for a cup of coffee the next morning. The good news is that there's a fabulous convenience store down the road, with great coffee; fast, friendly, no excuses.
