"The Cavern Inn is about 15-20 minutes from the Carlsbad Caverns visitor center. We went up there for the bat flight and then back the next morning for the cave tour. If we had stayed in Carlsbad, NM, it would have been a lot more driving. We arrived in early April on a family spring break vacation. The water park was closed - don’t know if that’s permanent or just too early in the season. There is one restaurant in Whites City and it closes at 3pm, so we had to drive to Carlsbad for dinner before the bat show (and get cheaper gas than the gas station in Whites City). For breakfast, you have a choice of cereal, juice, and commercial pastries or getting 10% off at the nearby restaurant. We split up and did both. People who at at the hotel enjoyed talking to the staff and guests over a basic breakfast; people who ate at the restaurant said the food was good but service was a little slow (down to one cook, but not many customers). For the price and location near the NP, the Cavern Inn was a no-brainer. Quiet, good AC, good WiFi. The gift shop across the street is a good place for getting drinks and snacks. "
