Super comfortable and strategically located
Beautiful riad located in one of the main shopping area of the town. The venue is the topical riad and te rooms are quite and big. The bathroom was clean and the public areas are comfortable and give you the impression to be at home. I strongly recommend this property, I will surely come back.

So and so
Based on the other riads we stayed at this one was the lowest in our list. It's a very big and impressive riad with lots of beautiful architerctural aspects, however it wasn't as clean (especially in the room), the rooms were not nice and the shower was an adventure. We never managed to take a proper shower throughout the 4 days we stayed there (and I am talking about a simple 4-5min shower with medium to hot water). So not clean, no shower, and no wifi in the room. Other than that, the location was great as it is in the heart of the medina (perhaps too noisy for others), the staff was very friendly, and the breakfast really good. If the small fountains had running water as they were designed for, the whole experience in this riad would improve greatly. Overall, I would not recommend it for the reasons mentioned above and plus it was pricy for what it offers

Good breakfast & service, good hot shower, excellent location. On the downside, the rooms felt damp, though it's common in the old buildings, bed linen had a smell & lack of sound isolation meant sleep wasn't great.

Great location just not the best accommodation
Great location, cute Riad. Needs updating. Room was big and spacious just quite dark and dingy looking. Bathroom needs updating, I dreaded using the shower. Towels were clean, just not clean and fluffy. Room was cleaned daily, staff were very good and very helpful. Breakfast was great, there was a lot of it, a lot of bread and not much else. Dinner was very good, best beef tagine. A mix of a review really, so best to just avoid.

Tout est vraiment ok. Seul petit bémol : un peu d humidité dans les chambres mais on est au bord de mer alors.... les petits dej dont très bien.

Great place to stay - location, service and rooms
Essaouira is a real find and the Maison di Sud was a gem of a hotel. Set right in the middle of the medina, it is really handy for pretty much everything to see in the town. Really helpful staff. Only slight downside was the room we had (which was enormous) was on the the 'road' side of the riad and hence a little noisy at times. . The only other point is that the wifi (free) is only in the downstairs lounge, not reaching our room or the roof. But we really weren't in the room much. There's a lounge on the ground floor (cool and a bit dark) but an enormous roof top terrace with lots of tables, chairs and loungers. Breakfast was pretty good (three or four breads, yoghurt, jam, honey, fresh juice and coffee. That said the same breakfast costs about £3/€3+ in most of the cafes in the town

Großes aber altes Riad im Herzen der Medina
Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Frühstück war immer gleich - viel Brot, Honig, Mermelade und einen Saft + Kaffee oder Tee (manchmal ein Ei). Es gibt eine große Dachterasse die zum sonnenbaden einläd, jedoch ist das Riad an sich ziemlich düster. Das Zimmer war groß, aber schon älter und staubig. Das Bad war ok, aber die Dusche ist ständig übergelaufen - nach ca. 4min., weil der Ablauf nicht funktionierte (auch nach der Reparatur). Das Bett war hart und die Matratze lag auf einer Holzpalette - im Rahmen. Es gab kein Lattenrost, was für das Schlafgefühl nicht gerade zuträglich war. Außerdem ist es sehr laut, von der Straße. Die Fenster halten den Lärm nicht wirklich ab, von daher konnten meine Frau und ich nur mit Schlafbrille und Oropax schlafen. Fazit: Für ein zwei Tage ausreichend, allerdings für mehrere Tage nicht so erholsam wie erhofft (wir waren 7 Tage dort).

Central for all our needs
I surfed Morocco 45 years ago from Kenitra to Agadir, living in my van. We stayed in Essaouira for a week only because we found a man who made excellent fresh yoghurt every day. My wife and I went for a week in October 2017 and the weather was about 30 degrees every day without a cloud in sight. We stayed in Maison Du Sud which is in the heart of the medina, giving us the choice of shopping, or rock the Kasbah. Sipping mint tea while watching great musicians, modern or traditional Moroccan style with just a ten minute walk to the beach where the Atlantic ocean still pounds away at the sandy shore. We watched surfers riding the waves, while further down the beach kite surfers were in flying above the waves. Camel and horse rides were available if you fancy it or even quad bikes racing along the waters edge. In short, something for everybody. We ate at some lovely restaurants, although not all of them serve beer wine or spirits. We never got sick as we were just cautious not to take ice in drinks. We had a great time.

Old riad and flies in the room
The riad is old and our room isn't that well maintained. The room is very humid and there were flies in the room! Condition of the room is different from what's shown in the pictures.

Leider war für mich bei der Buchung nicht ersichtlich, daß ein marokkanisch-deutsch gemischtes Paar (unverheiratet) nicht ohne einen Trauschein vorzulegen ein Zimmer in Marokko mieten kann. Der Aufenthalt ließ sich nur durch das Dazubuchen eines zweiten Zimmers ermöglichen.

Wir haben uns im maison du sud rundum wohl gefühlt: wunderschönes Zimmer, leckeres Frühstück, netter Service und super Lage. Unser Zimmer ging zur Straße hinaus, die mit Ladenschluss ruhig wurde. Auch für unseren 11 - Monate alten Sohn war das Hotel geeignet, da ein Babybett gestellt wurde und wir sein Essen in der Hotelküche erwärmen konnten.

Essaouira Experience
I was pleased to be given a room on the roof (terrace)as I felt that this would enhance my experience of staying within the Medina, and it did. However,I got the impression that the condition of the room on the terrace was a bit below the standard of the rooms within the indoor flights. The Riad is very old and interesting, the staff were great, the location is superb. They would have got a much higher score if the terrace room had been a bit better maintained (bad points: loose electric fitting, grey towels, older mattress, older and soiled curtains) as the rooms within the building. But overall the 2 days were OK and I wouldn't recommend against this hotel.

Central, clean and comfy
Smack in the middle of all the action/medina, walking distance to everything, I found it to be a beautiful, quiet, comfortable and very safe place to stay. The service was great, even offering breakfast when it was very much past the time, just because I came in late the night before and I slept in...they wanted to make sure I was well taken care of. I will definitely stay here again, the place is a gem!

Beautiful hotel in the medina
This is a very good hotel in the middle of the medina of Essaouira. It is located on one of the main streets of the medina and is as such easy to find (contrary to some other hotels, in which case you have to walk through endless narrow streets and may get lost). The port and the beach are both within walking distance. The hotel is beautifully decorated and gives the aura of a traditional riad. The rooms are fine.

Wir kamen aus der Sahara und lernten den Blick zum Atlantik wie auch die Stadt Essoiera kennen und sind noch heute sehr positiv beeindruckt. Die sehr schöne Altstadt, der Hafen und der saubere Badestrand haben uns immer wieder begeistert. Eine Reise die zu empfehlen ist !!!

Schönes Riad mitten in der Altstadt
Für unsere Zwecke absolut genial gelegen, mitten in der Medina (Altstadt), umgeben von vielen Geschäften, ohne Autoverkehr. Am Samstag war nachts etwas mehr los auf den Gassen, aber ansonsten sehr ruhig. Alle waren extrem nett, das Riad (Hotel mit offenem Innenhof) war sehr geschmackvoll und landestypisch eingerichtet, sie haben sich auch auf Extra Wünsche eingelassen und waren insgesamt sehr hilfsbereit. Wir hatten ein sehr schönes Zimmer mit Galerie und Sitzecke, es war richtig gemütlich. Das Bad war ohne Fenster und einfach (ohne Duschvorhang), aber sauber und ohne Schimmel und wir hatten immer heißes Wasser. Sehr empfehlenswert, wenn man keinen Luxusanspruch hat. Der Strand ist ca. 5-10 Gehminuten entfernt. Schwer einzuschätzen, da wir immer überall hin geschlendert sind. Viel Freude im wunderschönen Essaouira. Achtung: es bläst im Februar ein ziemlich kalter Wind, und auch die Räume sind etwas ausgekühlt. Wir hatten einen kleinen Radiator im Zimmer, der aber den Fußboden nicht warm bekommen hat.

Authentic riad in the medina
Beautiful hotel located inside the medina. The room I had was clean with towels and hot water. As a foreigner, I found the location to be very safe and it was certainly beautiful and authentic. The hotel is just a short walk away from the beach. I would definitely stay here again.
