We never went because the owner of Barnacle Bed & Breakfast double booked with another party. The owner never communicated with Expedia, which had our active reservation made one month before, and never answered to our emails, sent on 2 of their official addresses. Also, the owner did not answered our multiple phone calls, neither did they answered Expedia phone calls. We had to book elsewhere on Key West. Barnacle Bed and Breakfast owners are scammers AND horrible managers.

This B&B offers lovely sleeping rooms in an unique building in a beautiful setting. "Unique" is over-used as a descriptor, but absolutely merited by this unusual 1970s era structure. It is very well maintained with all modern conveniences including satellite and internet television where you may watch all your favorite streaming services. The hosts very thoughtfully provide kayaks for boating and bikes for outdoor excursions, all with the necessary safety gear. The beach is breathtakingly pretty, but not suitable for wading or swimming due to a thick accumulation of sea grass between beach and open water (I sank up to mid-calf when attempting to cross it). A number of good restaurants are 10 minutes away, and Key West with its many activities is about 45 minutes drive away. A wonderful breakfast is provided at 8:30 a.m. each morning (we slept in the first day, but enjoyed it on our check out day). Further, a tiki hut on site comes complete with gas grills and an outdoor sink for meal preparation. Overall this is a great vacation value; I highly recommend it and would love to return.

This is a mixed review, as the property has a lot of potential. - The location is outstanding - right on the water with a private beach. A great escape to relax and unwind. - Grocery and various restaurants are about a 10-15 minute drive further south on US1. - The owners recently acquired the property and have been making renovations and improvements, but it is still a work in progress. The site had a great covered area with fans, lights, and a sink, but none of these worked. - The grounds were clear of trash but in some places evidence of projects/repairs were visible. - The room we stayed in had a large walk-in shower, mini-fridge, and separate ice maker. Unfortunately the only place to sit was on the bed; a small bistro table and two chairs would be an improvement. - It was not apparent how to contact the owners during my stay if I needed something (a defined office); I called their contact number (a cell) and wound up texting them when I needed something. - The key to the room was lost or never turned in by previous guests, so I was unable to lock the room when I went out. - Somehow my reservation (made in June) got lost during the transition, so when I arrived I was not expected. Fortunately the reserved room was still available so they were able to accommodate me and honored the previous rate paid, though I had to pay again and work through my credit card company to get reimbursed for previous charges.

We loved that our room opened up directly to the beach and water! There were several thoughtful touches, including artwork and decor in the room that was unique and clearly not mass produced. The breakfast far exceeded our expectations in taste and setting. Each morning we were served a hot breakfast while sitting in the open atrium with the sea breeze. An extra bonus was the Key Deer - an endangered species - that were curious and friendly! We highly recommend this spot - convenient enough to get to Key West or any snorkel/diving experiences - but a world away in terms of quiet beauty.

The Bed and Breakfast is a very unique building with a lot of really cool design elements. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and their hospitality was on point. They served a great,filling, home cooked breakfast that was better than most Keys restaurants. I was lucky and enjoyed 3 of them. Breakfast is served in their atrium and all guest had time to socialize with one another. I met people from Italy, Canada and various states. The grounds are quite, scenic and had Keys wildlife roaming around. The views of the water with sunrise and sunset were beautiful. The location is mid Keys so traveling to the northern or southern keys is not bad. Plenty of restaurants, a grocery store, clothing store, bait shop etc were only 2 miles away. Thanks for making my stay in the Keys a good one.

If you're looking for a unique, peacefully quiet experience, than the Barnacle Bed and Breakfast is it. The most noise I heard was from the wind and waves, a welcome change from a big city. The owners are beyond wonderful, the breakfast, amazing, and the property, relaxing, clean, and a fun, unique style all in itself, something that my son and I will never forget. The deer that frequent the property are a delight and having kayaks and bikes to explore were much aporeciated too. We would go back in a hearbeat!

Secluded home on Big Pine Key with easy access to the other keys. Inn keepers were very friendly and we enjoyed hearing about their life's travels! Accomodations were comfortable and the breakfast was delicious! Would definitely recommend staying here!

The entire B&B itself as well as the rooms have a really cool vibe and energy. Jane and Tim were wonderful hosts. The breakfasts were substantial and delicious and they gladly accomidated gluten and meat free requests.

This is an absolutely amazing place to stay if you like peace, quiet, wonderful breakfasts and staff. We loved it here. Watching the Key deer on the property was also a highlight. Highly recommended.

This is a true hidden gem. The owners are fabulous and accommodating. It is simple accommodations with a fabulous view and a wonderful breakfast. I would stay there again.

Not worth the money at all

Well great location and key deer that said the family is very nice but need to clean the place up and update. Property is for sale and our stay was disappointing. Dirty messy trash on beach. Not worth the price sorry to say...

We simply loved the owners hospitality. The breakfast were prompt and absolutely delicious! Watching the Key deer in their natural habitat is always fun. This is such a gem of a place to stay. Right on the beach with bikes and kayaks provided.

Was für ein wundervolles Plätzchen! Die Inhaberin Jane begrüßte uns persönlich und führte uns herum. Das gesamte Haus ist liebevoll und detailliert eingerichtet. Es ist zu merken, dass sie mit Herz & Leidenschaft dabei ist. Das gemeinsame Frühstück um 08:30 Uhr mit den anderen Gästen war ebenfalls besonders. Wir hatten die Gelegenheit uns auszutauschen und Tipps zu geben. Auch der private strandabschnitt ist grandios- ein Kanu, Board und Tretboot stehen zur freien Verfügung. Die pagode am Strand mit der BBQ Möglichkeit ist ebenfalls hervorragend! Die breite Hängematte sowie Stühle laden direkt zum erholen und ausruhen ein. Die Lage ist auch hervorragend- jeder kann die Ruhe genießen sowie den sagenhaften Sternenhimmel (vom Dach des Gebäudes) und ist trotzdem in wenigen Minuten mit dem Auto oder den kostenfrei zur Verfügung stehenden Fahrrädern mitten im insel leben. Wir freuen uns schon auf unseren nächste Reise zu Jane!

The property is absolutely beautiful. The main building and the side cottage are both exceptionally unique in design and memorable. The room was clean, at least until I tracked some sand in. I am so pleased with this place.
