Historic building and convenient to bike trail. Not many shops or restaurants close by although restaurant in hotel was good. Just not much to see in downtown Frostburg.

The hotel has an amazing historic charm to it. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The beds have memory foam matresses. They use high quality pillows that are not too soft or too hard. They are just right. Your staff are amazing, warm, welcoming, and inviting. Kylie was amazing checking me in. Alyssa made me an amazing latte and was awesome checking me out. This hotel is a real treasure and I wish I could have given you all more nights than what was provided. Your operation is first class all the way! Much thanks to Bundy 🙂 for keeping my room amazingly clean 🙂. Definitely will stay here again 😀

Preserved Gem
Hotel Gunter is a Gem off the highway. Staying here is like stepping back into the prideful History of Frostburg MD. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable while the atmosphere of the lobby was alive. The cellar SPEAKEASY bar had live entertainment the attached TOASTED GOAT restaurant had a wonderful menu and attentive staff. The front desk staff was eager to please providing helpful Hotel info, ice, and excellent drip coffee for early risers. Located in the beautiful mountains of MD the area is popular with bikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Hotel Gunter was the perfect cozy stop on a cold and blustery night in January.

Bed is a deal breaker
The hotel was unique, I appreciated the decor and the history. If you need ice you Need to get it from the front desk before they leave. The bed was terribly uncomfortable. I would have scored it higher but we did not sleep well, rock hard memory foam. The vending machine didn’t work, and didn’t return my money. Overall it was nice but I would recommend with reservations.

Gunter hotel stay/Nov 2024
Everything was very nice. Comfortable bed, clean room, great restaurant, convenience to restaurants. Sights. The only complaint we had was being woken up by garbage trucks at 5:30am & they came back 3 times. It was hard to sleep in with that noise right outside your window. Also, no recycling there, lightbulbs were not energy efficient.

The hotel needs a lot of work done to make it a place I would ever go back to. Didn’t really have much contact with staff. Group of people smoking marijuana out back next to the entrance door.

Frostburg Trip
I was only there for 1 night but definitely enjoyed my stay. It was close to everything. I parked at the hotel and was able to walk to everything around town. The room was clean. The hotel had a lot of charm and the staff was very warm and welcoming!

I LOVED the history of this hotel and the beautiful antiques on display and in use! It was fun exploring the building and sitting out on the porch. I really missed having a little fridge in my room. I went through SO MUCH ice. I used the console table as a desk but the lighting was pretty poor. The bed was fine but the pillows were completely flat. The pros outweighed the cons for me. I look forward to staying again in the future!

Warm and cozy historical property with lots of character going for it. Great staff. If you can't overlook details of imperfect or ongoing renovation you might want to consider other options.

Nice historic hotel, but...
The hotel lobby and Toasted Goat restaurant had interesting and attractive decorations with a historic, period feel. The room was comfortable, but lacked a mini-fridge. A major shortcoming - the main window had only a sheer curtain, no shade to block out the 5 am sunrise.

Just a Little off the Mark
I totally understand this hotel is on the older side some where around 100 years+ so I expect some issues with contemporary needs. There is no drive up and park for check in. You are left on you own to figure out where to go and where to park just to check in. The room was clean but the wallpaper was pealing of the bathroom walls. I'm guessing steam and wallpaper are not a good combination. Some of the floors are not level and thus some of the rooms are not level. This is not a huge issue unless you have balance or equilibrium issues. It can be very awkward to move around you room and not stumble into the furniture. The dinning room is lovely but the menus are difficult to read due to the choice of paper and ink colors as well as the restaurant being dimly lit for ambiance. The manager/owner need to re-read the ADA rules regarding service animals and paperwork (not) required. the front desk and housekeeping staff were friendly and courteous. All in all not a bad hotel or location but I will not stay here again.

Check inn had our heads spinning. Told no hotel services available,restaurant closed no front desk rep after 5pm. Really, I know it was Memorial Day holiday but totally unacceptable. Who tells a customer you have a curfew when you book a stay.? This place apparently has tenants who rent parts of the building. Property needs a lot of updates and repair. Bed was hard and the room was small. No working phone in room no charging station for cell. The bathroom sink was hanging loose from wall and shower had no pressure. The room size was about 100 sq ft. The door locks were not updated with key cards, given regular keys that we struggled with after multiple tries we gained access to the room. I must say this was the most frustrating stay ever to experience.

A must stay!
Found this hotel when riding on the Western Maryland railroad. It's about 15 minutes away. Cannot say enough good things about Hotel Gunter. The lobby was beautiful especially the grand staircase, the staff was amazing, the history is fascinating, the rooms were clean and comfortable. It's like stepping back in time. Rooms do not have a refrigerator or telephone but that was fine with us as it adds to the old world charm. They have a restaurant on site called The toasted Goat which was delicious. The hotel was not expensive at all and so worth every penny.

Train ride weekend
We came for the weekend for the murder mystery train ride and stayed the weekend at the Gunter Hotel.. we loved the historical hotel. The basement was awesome with everything in the windows and the history of the jail. The ladies that were there ghost hunting was fun. Location was great. We will come back and hoping to get the king size room

Historic and unique downtown Main Street hotel that served our needs well for a one night stay near the college. Some minor repairs to the property could make it even better. Toasted Goat restaurant attached to the hotel was fantastic!
