The place was maintained with daily cleaning of the bathrooms and kitchen. A clean bathroom was my main priority and it was met. The place has no air-conditioning, fans or outside umbrellas on the beautiful grounds. The pictures show outside umbrella, but it was broken.
Unfortunately September was sunny and hot most days and nights making it hard to sleep. The room I had with 2 sets of bunkbeds, closet, dresser to share were fine. The towel and linen with a light fluffy comforter was nice. The washer machine was nice with a close line outside. The kitchen had the essentials to cook and store food in the refrigerators. The kitchen lacked Tupperware containers for left over food. Their were small lockers, like in school, to store valuables. Locks were available to rent for a price. The grounds had ample chairs and tables, no cushions. The cushions they did have were torn. To purchase groceries was just under 2 miles to city center Funchal. I used the public bus (#40), which has a stop near the hostel. I do not recommend walking. The roads are very narrow and steep. I cut My 2 week stay paid in full to 1 wk. I gave mgt notice that I had someone on site that wanted to extend stay and take my bed for the 1st 3 days. Mgt. later told me they were able to get a reservation for those 3 days, and I would be refunded. The day after I left, mgt said they changed the date to the last 3 days. I emailed, Great you were able to fill my 6 days. I have received No response and no 6 day refund
