The quaint little Fernie Museum encompasses two levels of a former bank building from 1910. This museum is not to be missed if you love local history and art. As well as being an interesting historic corner building in itself, the museum and adjoining visitor information center provide a wonderful insight into the past and present of Fernie.

Explore the This Is Our Fernie exhibition to get an insight into the history that shaped the town. Follow the ups and downs that the town went through on its journey to the modern day. Choose one of the Fernie’s Faces to learn about the town through the eyes of one of its inhabitants. Expand beyond the town for insights into the rugged Canadian Rockies region that surrounds the town.

Head up to the next level for a different take on Fernie in the Museum Gallery. Enjoy one of the arts exhibitions, featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations and photos by local or regional artists and art groups. Browse the touring historical exhibits that the gallery often hosts as well.

Time your visit to catch one of the museums informative and interesting events. These range from art or historical presentations and displays through to guided walking tours in the summer months.

The walking tours offer a great interactive insight into the town and cover a wide range of topics, such as rum runners and the devastating fire of 1908. If you would rather explore on your own, pay a small fee for the museum’s heritage walking tour booklet.

The Fernie Museum is open 7 days a week with free parking easily accessible outside. Entrance fees apply to the museum but not the information center. Family and seniors’ discounts are available. After your visit, enjoy a picnic in the park behind the museum or order a meal at a café or restaurant in the surrounding downtown area.
