This hotel was in a great location—many restaurants and shops nearby and within walking distance of all the major Toronto sightseeing destinations. However, there are some concerns about the safety procedures at this property. On the second night of our stay, the fire alarm went off at 4 am, accompanied by a loudspeaker announcement. The alarms were only in the hallways and were challenging to hear from the rooms, and the loudspeaker was unintelligible. When we walked out of our room, we noticed that the fire doors had closed in the hallways. The announcement stated that there was a concern on the 11th floor and that it was being investigated, with no clear instructions on what to do. Since we were on the 19th floor, we took the stairs to the lobby just in case. Then, 30 minutes later, there was an announcement that the fire department had investigated it and everything was ok. The front desk staff were not very clear about communicating what had happened. One stated that a guest had been taking a hot shower, left it on, and set off the alarm. Another stated that a guest was smoking in their room and set off their alarm. We were uneasy about returning to our rooms because the situation was poorly managed. This should be improved in future scenarios so that guests have a better sense of their safety and what to do in emergencies.
