It is interesting how things unfold-- I had originally planned a stay at another hotel- there was a glitch and we ended up at this incredible hotel. It is the most unique place I have ever staying at. We spoke at length with the owner, Dario, who explained the history of this ancient building. Their restaurant is attached by going downstairs through a winding, low ceilinged hallway. Our room was comfortable and had modern conveniences- which Dario cleverly integrated seamlessly into the ancient rooms. But, the very highest point of our visit here was the dinner. Dario asked if we wanted fish or meat. I then mentioned that I had never had a truffle. We were the only guests here and were treated royally. Oh my.... the food was exquisite. We started out with a salad and then pasta with the truffle sauce- this would have been more than sufficient but next came an entire sea bass with Croatian dipping sauce of olive oil ( and have no idea what else was in there). This was followed by home-made strudel. Dario's mother is an absolute delight. Seriously, in thinking back upon our entire trip along the Croatian coast, this was certainly a top, top experience.
