The Larb Hollow Overlook is a spectacular observation point just west of Capitol Reef National Park. It stands at a rocky summit, commanding views that stretch across the colorful Henry Mountains and the Waterpocket Fold. Bring your binoculars to hone in on some of the impressive rock formations of southern Utah.

Views from this overlook extend for miles in every direction on a clear day. Notice the La Sals mountain range in the distance beyond the Henry Mountains, at the point where Utah meets Colorado. Bring supplies to have a picnic with your family in this scenic setting. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the utter serenity in this region, far from city life.

Gaze across the valley and notice the stunning range of colors in the rock face of the Henry Mountains. In the ravine below, spot some of the natural landmarks, including a large water basin, depending on the time of year.

Enclosing the observation point are hills covered with trees and wildflowers. Read the information plaques to learn about European settlers, indigenous people and the forest fires that affect the area’s ponderosa trees.

The overlook has restrooms for your trip, but ensure you bring enough water, as well as a hat, sunscreen and food, as the area has few other amenities.. Once you pass this observation point, drive along the side of Boulder Mountain continuing through Fishlake National Forest.

The Larb Hollow Overlook is on a loop pullout in Fishlake National Forest along the National Scenic Byway 12 “A Journey Through Time”All-American Road. From the heart of Salt Lake City, drive south for 230 miles (380 kilometers) to get here in about 4 hours. The overlook is about a 2-hour drive from Bryce Canyon National Park.

While passing along this scenic route, stop at Homestead Overlook and Steep Creek Overlook too. No fee is charged for this drive. Visiting is best in spring through fall when the road is clear of snow.
