it had clean rooms- they are very dark. We were looking for a clean place to stay. This is very dated but worked for us.

Trying hard to do well
The owner and staff worked hard to make us comfortable, but the rooms are just not nice enough for us to go back.

The location is beautiful and I understand why people would like to travel here. However, the property is run down and the accommodations feel cheap. There was very little offered at breakfast - and the checkin/checkout process was confusing. It may be a lack of staff, but I'm not sure I would return here.

No television service despite costing over $150 per night… Week Internet service… Room disappointingly common… Room was not in the mansion but in an out building that was like a motel…

A mansion from another era on beautiful property that needs a lot more work. The accommodations are mostly summer camp like rustic bungalows . There is no typical reception desk and there’s an answering machine that is very amateurish There’s not much staff per se and they try to be helpful , however this place needs to be taken over by a corporation that has experience and could be a really good resort

Lackluster stay for the price.
This hotel charges the same rates or similar to other hotels that are newer and more updated. There was no Wi-Fi in the rooms and there was not much comfort. The bed was on wheels and would roll when we would try to read a book leaning our backs against the wall. Also we were in a barrack styled dormitory bedroom set up and the outdoor lights beamed into the room and there were no black out curtains, only old plastic cracked blinds. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom floor. Also the shower only had a shower curtain which was made of cotton and absorbed a lot of water. There was no shower liner so in order to avoid water spilling onto the cracked tile bathroom floor we had to put the curtain inside which became laden with water. When we checked in we were told that they were various activities of yoga and meditations. We were not here for this. We were here to visit family and spend the days hiking with them and going out to restaurants. If I knew that this was part of the package I would have looked elsewhere and found better comfort. It’s a nice place if that’s what you want but we were not looking for this and I was also disappointed with Hotels.com for having this listed on their site. I felt as though we wasted our two free nights on a three night visit.

While the property has a great potential, it is in a dire state. The cost cutting measures by the property management are obvious and overwhelming - from expired or really old soap to batteries pulled out of heater's remote control to unplugged freeze in the room to terrible breakfast. We even found used dinner plate under our bed. WiFi doesn't work and there is no phone in the rooms. Paint job all across the property is terrible, and rolled up carpets were in the main mansion. Stay away from this place!

This property changed from magic to tragic. Our first visit was excellent two years ago. Beautiful room, robes, and toiletries and a turn down service. The staff was attentive and interested in us being there. Upon arrival, we expected an amazing experience. Instead it was a let down. No robes, no toiletries, and our room had no electricity. All holistic services were booked; this should have been stated online so we would know in advance that theses services weren’t available during our visit. It’s a shame that business owners don’t realize how easy it is to get business, but once you lose a customer you seldom get them back.

The views from the property are outstanding and the main "mansion" is nice. The guest cottages are clean but the beds are terrible. The public areas are run down looking outside the perimeter of the mansion. The swimming pool is beautiful, but the paint is peeling on the bottom.

The mansion and the grounds are beautiful. We stayed in ‘the Ranch’, one of the surrounding buildings, and found the rooms to be pretty standard. Unfortunately, the TV did not work, and the hot tub on the premises was out of order as well. This is an old property and could use a bit more TLC. It is in a beautiful setting. Highlights were the indoor pool, the setting, and the breakfast. They offer ‘continental breakfast’ but there are hot entrees to choose from - self serve, buffet style. Overall our stay was good, but we had expected a bit more luxury for the price.

Glamping at its best
Great location with close proximity to Tanglewood. Grounds are beautiful. This is glamping with basic motel style rooms. There is no Hotel Service for anything less than 3 nights - no bedmaking/linen refresh. No bar/cafe facilities unless you are with a big group. Very safe and reasonable.

It's a retreat, not a hotel. If you're looking for a hotel, you may be disappointed. If you stay in one of the many cottages/cabins throughout the property there will be no TV and no daily maid service. One of the rooms I stayed in required you to run hot water in the basin before taking a hot shower. There is no lunch/dinner service. There is a breakfast buffet at the main house (mansion.). There is a TV available in the library of the main house/mansion. However, the grounds are very nice and are appropriate for strolls. Eastover provides a venue for multi-day courses.

The place was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a unique experience, and the grounds were fun to explore as there are different buildings and areas for different activities. It is peaceful, and there is natural beauty all around that provides a relaxing atmosphere. I stayed overnight and the room was clean, comfortable, and well kept. I had a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast, thanks again to the staff for a pleasant experience.

The property is not well maintained. It’s beautiful from the outside but when we got there we found out the indoor pool was not available to use for the season. In addition, none of the walkways were salted so ice was everywhere. The complimentary breakfast was horrible. Old fruit and hard boiled eggs were served. We stuck to the cereal and coffee and my boyfriend became sick from the food. The only saving feature was the room itself. It was clean, the bed was comfortable and it was well heated. Unfortunately, the other factors make it an undesirable place to stay. I understand the place is under new ownership but that does not excuse being served old food and not making the roadways and walkways safe to maneuver for guests staying there. I will opt to stay somewhere else when I return to the area.

Nice location, pool closed in winter
Beautiful and peaceful location, basic but comfortable motel style rooms (thin walls, fine as long as your neighbors are quiet). We stayed here because of the indoor pool, featured on the website and listed as one of the amenities on Hotel.com and other booking sites. It was closed for the winter - would have been good to know this.

Historic Mansion
I was in Lenox MA for work and chose Eastover Estate because of the historic mansion on the property. To my surprise the room I had in the mansion was very spacious with a huge bathroom and all modern conveniences. I was greeted by a very friendly registration attendant after a long drive from Boston. My stay was short as I was there for just one night. The property is a short drive (about 5 minutes) into Lenox, where there are many restaurants, shops and Tanglewood. The next morning a complimentary breakfast was served in the dining area using local ingredients grown on the property!

To be completely honest, I was nervous because of the last comments I read the day before I left. YES, the place has seen better days, but it is very clean and comfortable. They were cutting the grass as we arrived Our bathroom had been painted recently and the bed was comfortable. the employees were friendly and nice. The breakfast was a nicely served buffet. If you aren't looking for fancy and a lot of amenities you might be happier somewhere else. Otherwise it is just fine! AND I'm pretty particular!

An absolutely wonderful weekend. Peaceful and friendly, and the staff is terrific. The accomodations are rustic, but we had a large and comfortable room with a great view. The grounds are spectacular, and the entire place is set up to promote an easy interaction with guests. We took a couple of excellent tai chi classes. Indoor swimming pool is great. An entirely pleasant, warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Lovely retreat
Absolutely loved Eastover. We stayed the last weekend of Tanglewood, which was a short drive away. Breakfast was a delightful surprise. I was expecting a continental and instead we had an amazing all organic feast. The grounds are beautiful and the owners have Done a beautiful job restoring this old estate and former private school. Our room was large and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed complimentary yoga and tai chi from outstanding teachers. I also enjoyed the library which was full of books on wholistic health. The weekend was a peaceful retreat. I can’t wait to go back.

Beautiful setting, but needs some updating
I stayed at the Eastover with my husband and our two daughters in their early 20's. We chose this hotel because of it's price, even after reading some of the negative reviews. The setting is beautiful and the sense of serenity and relaxation is really enjoyable. The breakfast that is included in the room seemed very robust, we only had some of the fruit and pastries. The reason I gave the rating I did was that the rooms are a little old. The walls are thin and we were woken up each morning by the tv and voices in the room next to us. The rooms are old and if they could clean them up, this would be a wonderful place to stay. We did say we stay here again because of the beauty it offered.

Pleasant and attractive if simple, near Tanglewood
The room is simple, but very clean and attractive. Our room had a queen bed and a twin bed, plus a desk in the corner. We had to carry our luggage up the stairs, which was fine. The whole estate is really large, but beautiful -- it's filled with trees, flowers, plants and interesting statues. It's a very short drive (about ten minutes) from downtown Lenox and Tanglewood. We stayed in West Colonial, which was an easy walk to breakfast and a library in the main mansion. Breakfast buffet was included, and very nice.

Just OK, maybe not ready for prime time.
Eastover was ok; not great for the price. Room was clean and comfortable, but very spartan in terms of furnishings (no towel bar near the sink; only one bedside table, not great lighting, no extra blankets or pillows in the room, etc.). Property is beautiful, but the whole establishment has the feeling of an owner who's bitten off more than they can chew. The breakfast was quite good. If you're only using this place as a room and not there for the wellness classes or other services, it's a bit overpriced.

This property was probably at one time a state of the art Retreat facility. The structures, grounds and facilities are in great need of updating, repair and cleaning. The pool was not filled so that the water could circulate or so the debris on the top of the water would flow out and be filtered. The pool also needed to be vacuumed. The staff was pleasant enough, but not fully responsive. For example, we were told there were towels at the pool, but there weren't. The receptionist got us towels, but no towels were put at the pool for other guests, so they would have to go through the same thing we did. Our guest room was clean and appropriately supplied. However, the air conditioning filter needed to be cleaned (which we did) in order to work. The included breakfast was good. Our Qidong session on Sunday morning was wonderful!
