“We stayed here for one night after a day in Winchester. A nice enough hotel, with staff pleasant enough. The room we stayed in was small but well kept. The main issue we had was that the room was that next to a staff run through, meaning doors were slammed constantly. Further, there was no air conditioning, and the room we were in at the bottom floor was next to a busy beer table and had lots and lots of mosquitoes, meaning we were bitten to heck! “Staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival and lovely to speak to throughout our short stay. The hotel is immaculately kept and tastefully furnished. Our room was spacious (family room with a queen bed and bunk beds for our 2 children was a dream for them) and had great amenities. Bathroom was clean and basic toiletries were supplied along with shaving and dental kits. Enjoyed our short stay and would highly recommned.”

“A lot of design flair has been put into The Kings Head interiors. Very comfortable. The choice of breakfast was excellent as was the evening meal we enjoyed there. The staff were very helpful as was their manager Tahir. The Kings Head is on the bus route into Winchester with a bus stop right outside. Very convenient for visiting the city. We were very impressed and would definitely stay again.”

One of the main reasons we booked was for the swimming pool and spa facilities, but a few days after making the booking we were informed they wouldn’t be available. Unfortunately, because I hadn’t paid extra for the flexible cancellation option, I couldn’t cancel and get a refund. Lesson learned. I’d also be careful with the half-board option. We paid an extra £300 for two nights for a family of four, only to find an almost empty breakfast buffet one morning....

“When visiting Portsmouth this properties location in between the Historic Dockyards and Gunwharf Quays meant that for our three day stay we could easily walk to all of the major attraction. The fact it has its own car park was also a plus although you could easily travel there by public transport due its close proximity to the bus and rail stations. While the cleanliness of the room and the lack of transportation options could be considered minor downsides, the room quality was still reasonable given the price.
