Great, friendly staff. Beautiful grounds, including their own nature trail. Great view of surrounding mountains and calories from an expansive balcony that is used for the breakfast area as well as for lounging. It overlooks a small garden where you are guaranteed to see lots of hummingbirds. The furnishings are a bit old but everything is clean and tidy. Our room had its own private balcony.

Location is great. We arrived after dark so did not see much that night. But once we woke up, the area is so pretty. The jungle area is right after the property. We woke up early due to birds chirping all around us (we loved it). Saw various birds, anteater was moving around in the trees, humming birds moving around. Very quite and soothing place. The breakfast was included in the stay. Different options and you can order the items and they will prepare for you. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They also helped with any questions we had as well as booking the excursions we wanted to do. Overall, very happy with the place and if we will go back, this place will surely be on our list to stay.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms are what many would call basic but ideal for the setting - clean, hot showers, private sitting areas for views of forest. Nice little walking trail a bonus in their grounds. The excellent food at breakfast complemented by all the birds just off the veranda. In the words of my wife, property was cute and adorable.

Beautiful lodge! Loved the hiking trail on the property. Saw monkeys and tropical birds on our walk. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was great!

Magical Place
Breakfast was the highlight for me. Following by nature around and scenery. Helpful staff Quiet, feels Safe Well equipped room, quality toilettes, free coffee station Would be better if they put “real” windows black outs (artificial light from parking place went through the curtains)

Just ok
It’s was ok, our room smelled like incense so much we had a hard time sleeping. The bed was also uncomfortable. The breakfast was just ok, nothing special. I would not stay here again.

Wonderful spot!!! What a treasure. The grounds were gorgeous and the rooms were clean and cozy and spacious. They had everything we could need including a large fridge and freezer, microwave, utensils/plates, and pots to cook in. The front patio had comfy chairs to sit and enjoy the beauty. We loved the yoga class and took both the morning AND afternoon session. The breakfast was lovely too. It didn’t matter that they don’t have a restaurant on site because there were so many within walking distance. The only issue was the nightly/morning noises. The birds were singing and monkeys howling so it was an early morning wake up call. But we can’t control Mother Nature. This was one of my favorite places to stay while in Costa Rica and I only wish we could’ve stayed more nights.

We were traveling with my senior mom and aunt , both have mobility issues. The beautiful gardens here allowed them to see monkeys, agouti, motmots, coati and emerald toucanettes just sitting on the balcony. Breakfast was delicious.

We booked this place with not many expectations but were so pleased with our stay. It's super quiet, secluded, and the view from our room felt like we were up in the trees. They had free made to order breakfast and free coffee/tea in the afternoon. You can eat at the dining tables or take a seat on the patio to watch the birds and they'll take your meal to you. The lobby had binoculars, bird books, and purchasable art from a local artist. The property also had a small hiking trail that was great for an afternoon stroll to see the wildlife. Our room had a fan instead of AC but the area was surprisingly so much cooler than everywhere else that we didn't need it. The room was clean and the water pressure was great. We loved our stay here.

Cala Lodge was an amazing stay. The staff were so welcoming and lovely. Our room was tucked away, which provided the opportunity to sit out on a quiet balcony and watch trogons, motmots, flycatchers, wrens, woodcreepers, hummingbirds and toucanets fly by. Breakfast was an absolute bonus; a great start to day being served a delicious meal and watching birds a few feet away come and eat the fruit put out for them (we also had a coati visit). There is a short trail on the property with seating areas and swings that one should not miss out. The lodge itself is about a 15 minute walk from the transmonteverde bus station in Santa Elena (to/from San Jose), as well as a quick walk to the bus stop in front of the school which will take you directly to the Cloud Forest - so there is no need to rent a car.

Amazing gem with great service
This place is amazingly located, very quiet surrounding and 15 drive from the cloud forest. The service has been the best we had in our trip, and the breakfast was really nice!

There are plenty positive things about this place- friendly helpfull staff, rustic warm cottages in the forest, cozy breakfast room with huge forest faced terrace where you can enjoy momots and hummingbirds watching. They even have a personal trail which will surprise you with a few nice spots such as swing hanging from a tree. We just love it and I would definitely recommend Cala lodge to anyone who wants to get away from the crowd

No TV in the room. But otherwise this is an excellent choice for staying in Santa Elena. Easy access to Monteverde, plenty of restaurants walking distance, souvenir shops, coffee shops, tourist information and tours.

The family suit we stayed is absolutely nice and with a beautiful view from every window. This lodge and their surrounding area looked much nicer than what looks on the picture. The breakfast was also very nice and the breakfast area is very beautiful, we saw some very pretty birds while eating breakfast. Also there are several nice restaurants within the walking distance from the property.

Lovely stay beautiful surroundings
Our stay at Cala lodge was lovely - although we did upgrade for a small fee to a much better room with a balcony and wonderful forest view. The standard room was a bit too small and basic, but it didn’t cost much to upgrade for our second night and the staff were happy to let us do this! The views from this place are amazing and the surroundings really make it special.
