Follow this winding path to see the scenic waterfall and reach the shelter cave to inspect long icicles in winter.

The Mossy Cave Trail is a scenic pathway that follows the contours of the hoodoos and rocky spires that decorate the Water Canyon of Bryce Canyon National Park. It runs alongside a pleasant stream that leads to the trail’s namesake grotto. Reach the cave and admire the variety of its intriguing natural features.

Hike the picturesque Mossy Cave Trail with family and friends. It is considered a relatively short and easy walk, suitable for kids. Enjoy the views of the towering trees and the colorful rocks that come in red, white, brown and other shades. Spot some of the large and small animals that frequently visit the stream to quench their thirst.

When the path forks, choose the right side to continue along the stream until it culminates above a pretty waterfall. Rest your feet in the cool water of the stream and consider a short swim in the deeper parts. The left side leads to the Mossy Cave, which can be a picnic spot or a fun hangout for children. Note that the grotto qualifies as a shelter cave and was created by an underground spring.

In winter, snap photos of the icicles that hang from the cave’s roof. In summer, the area is covered in lichen and verdant moss. Walk along the banks of the stream, which was artificially formed by settlers looking to provide water to the nearby towns of Tropic and Cannonville.

Make sure to bring sufficient water and snacks, as well as appropriate footwear for the hike. Pay attention to weather forecasts to ensure a safe hike.

Find the Mossy Cave Trail in the Water Canyon in the northeastern corner of Bryce Canyon National Park. Reach the site just east of the town of Bryce via the highway. Leave your car in the small parking lot at the end of the trail. After touring the area, visit interesting nearby towns, such as Cannonville and Tropic.
