The small village on Mykines only has about a dozen year long residents. The helicopter supplies them twice a week and takes them to one of the other islands if they have the need. During the summer many visitors come to see the birds that nest on the island or one of the islets close by. There are also summer residents many who have family history on the island. This old stone building houses supplies and equipment.

The island of Mykines is known for nesting Puffins and other seabirds. It is a spectacular place to visit. The hiking was a bit challenging for me as were the heights, but the views were worth it.

The village of Gjogv sits right on the coast of Eysturoy, with a small gorge nearby and imposing flat-topped mountains in the distance.

An idyllic, misty view of Sandavรกgur! I was on my way to the otherworldly Trรธllkonufingur! Trรธllkonufingur was one of the best sights on Vรกgar Island and one of the highlights of my trip. But, I also enjoyed the walk to and from there! I hiked about 12 KM that entire day and it was well worth it. Sandavรกgur has been voted the most well-kept village in the Faroes twice. And it's the most famous "city" in the country, and best voted traveling experience. Although, not an actual city at all - the population is only around 861! The name Sandavรกgur means sandy bay and refers to the sandy beach which used to be much larger than present. From one point in Sandavรกgur you can get a view of all the southern islands in the Faroes. And the red-roofed church seen in this photo is one of the best in the Faroe Islands! In fact, members of the Danish Royal Family were there 1 day after I was! I even saw their motorcade as they were continuing on their journey. A pretty cool experience, too ;).
