Disappointing Place
Very disappointing place. On Hotels.com they said they were four or five star hotel. They are maybe 2.5 stars. They said they had a business centre. They did not. They said they provided wireless internet. There was no internet available on my floor the entire time I was there. They claimed to have seven restaurants. Nope. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls. The carpets and coverings were stained. The check in (entrance) area had action movies blaring from morning till late at night, which gave the place a trashy feel.
Location is very central. Bed was very good. Though the upholstery and carpets were stained, the room was clean.

Westlands Location - Caveat Emptor
Good location in Westlands and if you get it at a good price, it is a good value. The hotel targets Chinese travelers so food, TV, and staff or oriented to this. It is like going to China in Kenya. Best to book online and not at hotel as some personnel seem to want to cut their own side deals that are more expensive than booking online.

Westlands on a Budget - Food Included
A great option if you are on a budget and need to be in Westlands near the better hotels. Better than the rustic guest houses for the price. Many Chinese visitors stay here and the food is targeted to that audience.
The hotel is a budget 4 star.
My room (301) was very small without a mini bar, the mattress was exceptionally hard. The gym is small, located in front of reception, it requires motivation to be used.
Other than that the room was clean, staff was very friendly and efficient, the laundry service works well and the breakfast was good.
I bought the rooms at a discounted price, overall the stay was worth the money I spent for it.
If only this hotel was maintained this would have been a very good hotel. Drainage issues. Leaks from sink. Shower blocked. Room could do with a splash of paint. Window damaged stuffed with tissue. Air conditioning not working . I had to request for a fan.
The Lift had finger marks all over it. Reception staff not that friendly.
Hotel has good potential. They need to maintain their facilities regularly. Despite these issues l might consider staying at the hotel again because some of the staff were nice and l did feel at home and was made comfortable after l complained. Complaint response was fast and rectified but some issues remained. It got to a point l stopped the complaints and over looked the issues. But the hotel has very good potential.
It was a big surprise to find such a nice place in Nairobi. It's in a safe neighbourhood. The room is very clean, bright and well decorated. After staying at several different hotels in/around Nairobi, I finally felt relaxed when I entered this hotel. For a single person, I also got a good price for that small but cosy room. They have two awesome resturants inside the building, which serve authentic chinese food. Overall, it was a highlight of my trip. I highlly recommend this hotel to travelers.
I am usually not one to complain, but I was extremely disappointed by the Nanchang Hotel. They claim to be a 4 star hotel, but this is definitely not 4 star standard. I am astonished by the positive reviews this hotel has gotten, to me they sound like they're describing an entirely different place.
Me and my colleague stayed here one night and when we arrived we each got a small room without bed linen. We asked about this and were moved to new rooms, where there was bed linen but no mattresses (only a thin cover on top of a hard bed base and the cover was too small to cover the base). We got new rooms again, where the beds were the same but at least there were mattress covers that were the same size as the bed. The rooms were small and smelled of something strong (smoking is permitted indoors so perhaps this smell was something to cover it up). The bed was really hard and the general standard of the room was way below what you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
The restaurant was ok for dinner, but many things from the menu were unavailable. At breakfast I asked if there was meat in the noodles and rice (as I am a vegetarian) and was told no, but after taking one bite I realized that there definitely was meat in it.
I asked if I could book a taxi to go to one of the top tourist destinations in Nairobi, but I got a driver who wasn't a taxi driver (probably just a friend of someone in the hotel). He tried to charge me 3 times the normal price and had to stop several times al

overpriced but convenient and friendly staff
The room is comfortable and the staff, both Kenyan and Chinese, were uniformly friendly and helpful. My room was 120 steps up from the ground floor. the elevator was not working for one full day. the internet was not working for 36 hours of my stay. Even by the overpriced standards of Nairobi the Nanchang was high for what you get.It is VERY convenient and I was able to eat at 3 different, excellent places all within a 5 - 10 minute walk of the hotel. The brochures and website said that there was a gymnasium. But it has been closed and one piece of equipment put into the hallway right outside the elevator on each floor in lieu of a fitness center. Not the ideal place to have a workout. At about 1/2 the price I would stay there again.
I agree with the previous reviewer on most of the comments about this hotel. I too booked it because of the 4 star rating. unfortunately it was a let down, especially that i was expecting a nice rest after grueling 7 day Safari.
let's start with the positives. The superior single room is spacious, the breakfast buffet is delicious and sufficient if you like Chinese food.
Now the bad. It is literally a 3 star hotel from a 2nd or 3rd tier city in China being air lifted and dropped in Nairobi. The design, the furniture are almost exclusively Chinese or exported from China.
from design perspective, things are lacking or not where they should be. for example, the safe box is in the bottom of the closet which is blocked by the huge sofa; the mini bar is so close to the bed that i suppose it becomes another night stand; no face tissue anywhere; there is almost no place for your own toiletries in the bathroom; the bath towels are super thin.
from function perspective, the drainage was not designed properly, there is strong smell of sewage in the bathroom which is gross; the standing shower stall is very Chinese small and cumbersome to open and close and i hit my head once because the top railing is low; safe box is detached from the wall, what's the point? and there is no stand/rack for the luggage.
what upset me the most was the heavy banging from 11:30pm to 40 minutes after midnight for repairing the tiles. couldn't it be done during the day?!
till 12 am, the guys are making too much noise.
Never ever stay over.

Nice Hotel good for a night or two
Spent the night. When I saw the lobby it looked a bit cheesy. But when I got into the room I was surprised how clean it was. It was fine for the night.
