North Shore, St. Croix Island hotel rooms at the Independent

"We could not get hot water. Showers were luke warm. Staff was courteous and helpful and pleasant to work with. Grounds were clean. Parking was an issue. Overall was a good place to stay. View was exceptional. "

Views are wonderful, beach is very nice and not crowded, bartender Connor was excellent and food truck was delicious!! We fell in love with the cats around our cabin. "I’ve traveled to various European destinations in Mexico and South America, but I’ve never encountered a five-star hotel with such a poorly maintained system. The patio was littered with discarded boards, and the shower leaked. The housekeeping left dirty towels in the rooms, and there were even dead roaches on the floor. My children had bites on their arms and legs when they woke up in the morning, which I suspect were bed bugs. I called the hotel and notified the front desk as soon as I left the resort to prevent future guests from being exposed to the same problem. Unfortunately, the management never returned my call. To make matters worse, several female staff members in the restaurant and bar by the beach were extremely rude. Clearly not worth the money spent."

"The hotel is great. In a great location to be able to visit the entire island. Great beach and several restaurants within a short walk."

"This property is not a resort. There is not a restaurant, the only amenity is a pool with broken lounge chairs. It is also in a run down area. Not safe to walk around in and is not within walking distance to downtown Christiansted. A car is required if you want to go anywhere. We had to rent a car immediately because a local said it was not safe to walk around. It was more like an apartment building with a pool. I would have never booked a stay here with four young college girls. The room had bugs as well. "
