No complaints other than the staff quarters above my courtyard room (number 10) lots of late night walking around which is understandable for work staff coming home late to an old building, but the loud TV until the early hours really was a problem.

Excellent breakfast!

The room was perfectly comfortable, with an en-suite. The best part was probably the breakfast, which was excellent.

This is a great place to stay in Oakham. This is certainly more of a B&B feel in that it is very quaint, rustic, and charming - which is exactly what we wanted. The room we stayed in was in a detached building behind the pub/restaurant, which made it more quiet and private than I was expecting. Overall great stay.

Centrally located gem

It was a very pleasant stay at a well-run hotel where guests come first. The condition, the service and the ambience were all first class.

Just what I needed

Convenient town-centre location, and not far from the station if travelling by train. Good mixture of character and modernity in the bar / dining areas, beer garden and accommodation; all well maintained.

Happy weekend in Oakham

Originally booked into The Admiral Hornblower but transferred to the sister nearby hotel - The Finches Arms. More than happy with the whole experience.

Perfect night away

Our Friday night stay was great. Oakham is a lovely village to visit and the Admiral Hornblower was welcoming. As expected in an older building there was stair access with low ceilings and creaky floorboards, but this all added to the charm. If you're a light sleeper, I'd suggest earplugs, given you're above a pub and also street noise. Breakfast was relaxed and a great choice and the service was excellent. We ate dinner locally but the restaurant looked inviting and beer garden shined on a sunny afternoon. There was no parking left onsite when we arrived, so parked on street and moved to carpark at 9am in the morning. Saturday morning strolls, markets and great coffee from independent Caffè Aroma, just across the road. It was only hour's drive, so would love to return.

Nice hotel, good food and amazing service!

The hotel is well located in the center of town and very quaint. The food was good and the accommodations were clean, simple and comfortable. What I was impressed with the most was the people and the service. They were extremely kind and attentive and jumped to assist whenever they could. They remembered how I took my coffee from one day to the next, the chef helped with the bags and we had a problem the first night with one of the rooms and they want above and beyond to solve it. I would definitely stay there again.

Great location and warm welcome from staff. However, I couldn’t find the parking it mentions on the listing and the single-glazed windows meant the road noise was very loud. And no curtains!

Really enjoyed our stay, lovely friendly staff and the food was very nice. My only negative was that we were staying in rooms accessed by crossing the gravel car park. The gravel was slippery in the ice and needed a bit of sand and their was no outside lighting. Other than that, lovely and will definitely come again.

Must do better

Accommodation itself was basic but serviceable. Comfort was disappointing given there was no hot water or heating. And with this being an outside courtyard room it was particularly cold. Breakfast was ok but not special. Service mediocre.

Lovely food and nice room but noise issues

Lovely food and nice room. Problem was noise. Floors bound to be creaky in such an old building but periodically it sounded like someone was banging on our door. We think it was because the doors did not fit well and as the staff went up to bed, our door banged but unfortunately that was very late at night and woke us several times. Extractor from kitchen was below our room but did go off at 10pm.

Hotel was nice , the food is lovely and the staff are too. my only gripe was in my room, room 3 the aerial didnt fit the tv so nothing to watch when i went to my room. I stated in the same room in January 23 and it was the same. I spoke to night manager, who looked at it. and couldnt fix it. he mentioned taking something off my bill and then said he would look to see if he had another room but he didnt come back to me.

It was quaint and generally had a nice feel to it but rooms could do with a bit of an upgrade especially the shower. Really dissapointed with the whole stay. We arrived after a 7 hr drive to be told we didnt have a room due to an error on their side. The attitude was its ok we will find you somewhere! Was almost shocking. The worst was we had phoned ahead to say we were travelling from scotland and would be late checking in, told this was ok. At no point was it mentioned we didnt have a room! Luckily they did find us somewhere close by but were not apologetic enough in my eyes. It almost felt like they were doing us a favour. We had paid over £100 per night. The place they found only had availability that night so the poor person who had kindly put us up had to call the Admiral Hornblower to discuss the fact we had a 2nd night booked and paid for and could they accomodate us! I mean its just so poor. The guy who rescued us even said they didnt have a room but if we needed he would give up his own room for us. Bless him. We did however return to the Admiral Hornblower but the manager almost looked at us like we had 2 heads! No apology, nothing!!!! All in all was such a dissapointing stay. I would not recommend at all.

Charming old inn with limited parking

Comfortable stay in an excellent old inn. The room had a large bathroom with a shower and plenty of room for toiletries. The hot water was available immediately. Room service was good and WiFi good enough to stream live football on mobile devices. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. The restaurant served a reasonable selection at average prices and there is room for improvement with the service here regarding the accuracy of the bill. The hotel appears to have been an old coaching inn and the car park which is very small, is accessed on South Street by the zebra crossing to Tesco and through two arches. There wasn’t any space available when we arrived and we had to park in the local council long stay car park until space became available later that afternoon. Our room, #3 faced on to the High Street and Friday night into Saturday morning was at times noisy with rowdy people passing by.
