Rye Valley, Virginia hotel rooms at the Independent

"It is a unique historic hotel that appeared to me. My goodness, it had a key for the door. When was the last (great to me) time that happened? I was traveling alone and sent my wife pictures and she said "it doesn't appeal to me". On second view, it is kind of "masculine" and I liked it. Subway tiles in the bath and an iron (looking) canopy type bed. Super quiet. Breakfast wasn't much but it was enough to get back on the road. Desk attendants super nice and very professional. It was a really quaint stay and a super bargain and high value for price / what you get for a stay. Downside for the physically challenged: Steep stairs up to main desk. May have been an elevator that I didn't see. Parking in back requires provided mag lock entrance but there are steps. Only way to the front is around a few other buildings. Fortunately there was street parking since I was there late at night on a Saturday so I pulled back around."

"The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was great! lots of options. The cleanliness of the room was good, there was some dust on the bottom of the lamps and on the counter in the bathroom. the carpeted floor could have been cleaned a bit better. It appeared that the vacuum needed to be emptied. We did not like the soft lighting in the room. It seems that other hotels are also going to the softer lighting. We would stay there again. "

"Cleanliness is my main concern when going to a budget hotel. I travel frequently and I would say this is the cleanest I have stayed at for a while and was very pleased! The woman that helped with check-in was extremely nice and everything went very smoothly. The bed was comfortable the pillows were (just) ok, but as I said everything was very clean. There was noise from the road, but that’s to be expected. If that bothers someone I would suggest asking for a room that is further from the road. Mine just happened to be the group of Rooms that was closest to the highway. There didn’t seem to be any amenities. I got a great price and didn’t have any expectations but if you do, you may want look for another place there was not soap out etc. I would definitely stay again if I was traveling through and I definitely recommend"

"The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was, "meh." A lot of clutter & trash around the property. Inner courtyard was nice. Room was acceptable, needed painted and some furniture was stained. Bed was comfortable and clean. Ice machine was out of order, vending machine was out of order (signs on both). Price was right and I would probably stay again if I was by myself."

"Everything people complained about previously must've been resolved or people were just being picky...the staff was very friendly, the property was very clean and updated. And the amenities were perfect for my family. The breakfast was very filling!"

"Parking right outside of room. Room was spacious, refrigerator was decent size. Room was quiet with no highway noise which I appreciated. Sam at front desk was very helpful. Breakfast was fine with scrambled eggs and various breads, cereals and yogurts and waffle machine. Best view of mountain from breakfast area."
