My husband and I recently spent 2 weeks in S. Korea. Our favorite lodging was Jeju Doldam B&B (1 hr south of Jeju City by car). The B&B is in Daepyeong, a quiet seaside village & a 5-min walk to the sea & Jeju Olle Trail. The B&B is as relaxing a place as we’ve ever stayed.
Owners Sue & Kwon are wonderful people. They really cared about the quality of our stay at the B&B & on Jeju Island. The hearty breakfast (included w/your stay) included delicious vegan bread they make daily. We ate on the shaded veranda, a great place to relax w/a book.
Our luxury double room was spacious, cheerful & quiet. It overlooks the small fishing harbor & sea beyond. fyi, a king bed in Korea is the size of a queen bed in the U.S. We sleep on a king bed at home, but the smaller bed was not an issue; the mattress was so high quality we slept well.
Sue speaks excellent English & was a wealth of info. She recommended specific waterfalls, museums, hikes, beaches, farms & local restaurants. Every rec was great.
At her suggestion, we did a 3-hr hike in Mt Hallasan National Park. It took 4 hours, as we rested along the way. The hike was steep w/many stairs. So glad we did it. Our reward was spectacular views of Mt Hallasan & many smaller volcanoes in the distance.
Choice of restaurants in Daepyeong is limited. We ate twice at a restaurant Sue recommended, which served authentic local fare. We’ll return to Jeju Doldam B&B! Next time we’ll rent bikes near the B&B to ride on the trail.
