Great value, you get what you pay for. Location good near subways.
Posting this review super late. I stayed at the end of June. Location was great. A small market, Compose Coffee, Daiso, subway access, and laundromat were within a 5 minute walk. It's a bit small but i didn't mind that at all. The hot water for showers was limited so if you didn't time it right between everyone else staying you have to speed wash before it runs cold, give or take 5 minutes. The only complaint i really have is if there's someone outside on the balcony you can hear everything from inside the room, but I've got kids so it didn't bug me as much as it would someone else. All in all it was a decent place to stay and I'm staying again in my next trip.
this is not a property, it is a hallway split into beds and half bath that has a dangling shower, there is no space to change your cloths, bathroom is super old and not clean, cockroaches in the bathroom, smells very bad, the manager is not pleasant, no kitchen to do any food, just a sink in the hallway, this is a shame on Expedia to include it in the list of their trusted hostels, should be taken out, if I knew it is that bad I would have not even booked it, but I trust Expedia choice which was a big mistake

Seoul Guesthouse foreigners only was small but comfortable and the bathrooms were not that bad. Depending on the possibilities it was OK and for the money amount you shouldn't expect perfectionism. You could call it an experience in how poor people in Seoul maybe live. On 1st of January, we had to change the guesthouse, because the first one closed. This notice was communicated gently and in time.
But guesthouse mum, the second one, was even worse. It was freezing in the bathroom and mould everywhere. In the dormitory was it warm but I felt a breeze in my bed what meant that this house has a really bad insulation.
I stayed only 2 nights and left "mum" 4 days earlier.
At $9/night. This is in no way a complaint. But having said that I still believe that if a place is going to charge any amount, there are some absolute basics that shouldn't be compromised. The hotel ONLY allows foreigners, but the owner was not foreigner friendly. I arrived 10mins before check-in and with no wifi and with no calling ability, I would've been stuck outside with my bags had it not been for a friend. My friend called and was given the passcode for the door, but even before I could finish my next question, the owner hung up. Dear of the time I was there was nothing of note. Bathroom was dingy with hair clumps here and there. Room was for 6 people, luckily there was only 1 other person. Honestly, other than the check-in process, it was what I expected from the cheapest listing on Hotels.com. Go with zero expectations.
I have been in Korea for several months but this was far and away the worst place I stayed.
On the plus side the place is cheap and the location is very convenient, but for a little more money you could get something so much better.
The woman hosting in the hostel is so bad tempered and unhelpful that it was something of a joke along the people. She could be nice if she wanted to be though. One day a young man came along who was either her son or the son of the owner and then she made a big show of being super helpful, but the minute he left she reverted to type.
I stayed in the female dorm which had a terrible smell of damp and black mould on the walls partially hidden behind panels on the walls. The room was very damp, completely unhealthy. I had a single bed in the room, which was in reality some kind of camp bed, hard, very uneven with a bump in the middle. The place was not clean as the host didn't seem much inclined to housekeeping. I don't know what the story is with only accepting foreign visitors, but I would give this place a wide berth.
The location was awesome,,, didnt get to stay long because i ended up moving to my friends hotel but the short time i was there was lovely. The owner/manager was super sweet and informative and the hotel itself was pretty cool
The manager is really nice. The place is realy quiet. Everything is ready and no charge on towels and even laundry- basically you are on your own to use washing machine and cook. She might not be available so make sure to text her before you arrive. She will respond mostly right away.
The location of Seoul Guesthouse was amazing. It was easy to get anywhere, either by bus or subway. Also, the host was super nice and helpful, providing detailed directions on how to get to Seoul Guesthouse. Overall, i was satisfied with my stay.
The first night I was in a cramped room with only 1 foot by 3 feet of walking space in & out the room, no space for my luggage. I had to leave my luggage in the “living room”. The second day host Jo put me in a bigger room where there was room for my luggage but realized the day I left she never gave me a key to my room & my things were unsecured when I left for the day. Both rooms I stayed in were 4-person rooms but only enough space to comfortably fit 2 people with their things. I only saw Jo once in all 3 days (even though I looked for her each day) and there was no reply to my goodbye email. Other than that it was clean.
