I love staying @ The Criterion Hotel. It’s a fab old building, perfect location, simple amenities and comfortable. If you’re a Diva - don’t come here. The stairs will be too hard for your precious self. But if you want good accomodation, in the centre of mighty Sydders with cafes and restaurants and entertainment all around you, as well as some nature with Hyde Park so close and without having to secure a personal loan, The Criterion is it.

small, glass bathroom, not private, awful bed
Very clean, but not keen on the practically see through glass bathroom. Small room and a shocking small soft bed - doctors visit yesterday for pain relief. Would have like the coffee in the room rather than mid-way down the stairs. good location and an ok choice if you're desperate. wouldn't stay again thou

Great overnight experience.
Small room but perfect for us. My only suggestion would be to turn the lighting down in the bar at night to add some atmosphere. Staff were great, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

It was a very good stay. Very well located, near town hall station (where you get everything for everywhere), refurbished room, good spacious, good bathroom, good bed. The only remark is there is no breakfast, but there is a dulce gusto machine (free) and several coffee shops very close. I recommend the stay.

The shower/bathroom had a backed up sewage smell after the first night and the drain in the shower doesnt drain properly. Pools of water were still there for all the night we stayed. The air conditioning unit in the room would also blowout these black chunks of plastic or foam like material and would get all over the mattress.

Room was great would recommend they add a chair to sit on in the room. Only annoying thing was the AC outside the window was really noisy all night.

Nice clean rooms. Minor downside with not having an elevator, but manageable. The food and drinks in the pub downstairs is really good. Very quiet room, considering how close it is to the CBD.

Disappointed
Was very disappointed in the size and layout of the room. There was no bar fridge at all, had a desk with no power point anywhere near it. The bathroom (if you can call it that) is very tiny, the shower was only half a metre wide and was not clean at all. You are basically sitting on the toilet while trying to shower. Given that you are in the city you would think that the windows would be sound proofed. Over priced for what you get.

I saw this room advertised at a cheaper rate but unable to get it at this price even after phoning this hotel. Otherwise I was very happy with the accommodation.

Great hotel, great price
Amazing hotel and central to the shopping area. Rooms were clean and cosy. Toilets are spotless and love the stay here. Only negative is that there is no lifts so you will need to carry your bag up the stairs

Great staff on check in , really friendly and show you to your room.Irish pub downstairs and standard pub upstairs with great meals …. Close to everything being in Pitt St in the heart of the city…. Loved the place , will stay again when in Sydney .

Great location. Check-in at bar. Staff friendly. Art-deco style building and decor with original features in nicely restored condition. Accommodation has separate swipe card entrance. Very quiet the night I stayed in one of the back rooms on the top floor - 49 steps - no lift - not too bad as you can rest on the landings on the way up. Bathrooms are modern installation ensuites. Only a short walk to Town Hall

I did not stay at the Criterion, I booked it, but cancelled the next day. 3 weeks later Wotif charged me anyway. Sorry I cant be more helpful

The room was ok. Great location to Town Hall railway station. The coffee machine was broken all four night's we were there. You had to go downstairs to get a coffee or go out. Could it not had been fixed?.

Clean comfortable compact room. Hotel has loads of art deco features and character. Small bathroom that works surprisingly well. Good location for walking central Sydney. We caught the train into Sydney and easily located near Town Hall station. Room sealed against outside noise in this busy part of town but that means room depends on air con. No elevator and two flights of stairs. Good value for money I thought.

Decent little hotel. Small rooms but good if you want something cheap and easy in the CBD. Good for young people travelling and people who just want somewhere to sleep and leave their things. Felt secure, room was clean, and they were happy to look after our bags for us on our last day after checkout till we were ready to head to their airport.

Great for people but not cars.
Quaint little rooms in an excellent urban location. Bar / restaurant downstairs were great and very convenient. Parking is a nightmare as expected... we ended up paying $140 for 16-hours overnight park nearby. Don't bring a car if you do not have to!

We have Town Hall station located next to the hotel making it easy to get about by train and all of the main tourist attractions are located within walking distance. Great hotel, very surprised at the cleanliness as other hotels don't have that comfy clean atmosphere, staff were very attentive, will definately be back!

Good stay at Criterion
Good location , great for what I needed. The manger showed me to my room , turned on tv , said it was tricky and then left . Only local stations able to be accessed but okay by me. Up 3 flights of stairs so could be a problem if you had lots of luggage. Very quiet which was surprising due to its central local. Reno is good , bubble shower good
