Nog nooit zo een close contact gehad met een B&B gastvrouw die zichzelf uit de naad werkt om ons als gasten alles te bieden wat je van een B&B verwacht. Janice is echt een fantastische persoon en is zeer familiair als je het toelaat. Het huis is 107 jaar oud en dat zie je er aan doch dat heeft een enorme charme. Het lijkt in het begin wat shady maar daar moet je doorkijken. De kamers zijn goed en toen er een elektrisch probleem was met de stopcontacten, hebben we een upgrade naar een grotere kamer gekregen. Super ! Locatie is ook top. Nog eens bedankt Janice !

Dave was an exceptional host and didn't mind the (very) late check-in at all. He even let us change rooms free of charge after we accidentally booked a single room instead of a double.The breakfast was amazing and we loved his chef outfit so much. Everything was literally a 10/10.

Absolutely beautiful B&B. Marc was the best host we had in our 3 weeks in New Zealand, he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Our room was perfect and breakfast was delicious every morning.

The property is unique. Classic villa with plenty of fascinating objects to admire. We loved our room with its quality carpet, beautiful lamps and most importantly a comfortable bed. Most importantly the warm welcome by the owner plus the timely offer of ' a cuppa' on arrival.

loved this beautiful old home
Such a cool place to stay, lovely people, old worldly charm, log fire, comfy bed and good breakfast. Just one small thing- pillows need replacing they have seen better days and weren’t very comfortable. Yes I would definitely stay again. Thanks

Stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer. Mark was fab, gave us ideas of where to visit and made us a great breakfast If you like bland hotels this might not be your cup of tea but if you like interesting and welcoming book here

The Shady Rest is a period B&B, which is full of character and has a friendly welcoming host. There comes a point where period and quality cross over, I felt that Shady Rest is reaching that point. I found the bed in my room very soft and uncomfortable, which affected my nights sleep and stay. So for character 10/10, but for comfort, 4/10.

Relaxing accommodation in Takaka
I enjoyed a relaxing stay at the Shady Rest. Mark, the owner is very welcoming and friendly. He is helpful in providing a good deal of activities that can be found around the Takaka and Golden Bay areas. He provided me with a map of the Golden Bay area, and describe the many points of interest/activities to explore. The 100+ year old home has been nicely restored, and has modern comforts. The are numerous types of artwork throughout the property, and a wonderful common area in the back which has a bbq, plenty of shade, and a gorgeous wood table for guests to enjoy. The property is located on the main street through Takaka, and the main business area with restaurants, shops, and a Fresh Choice market is an easy 8-15 min. walk. The bed was comfortable, and the room was quiet at night. There are several nice areas of the home to relax, including an elevated front porch/balcony for reading or taking in the fine Tasman weather. The breakfast was nicely presented, and filling. A great fruit salad, cereal, eggs cooked to order with toast, and tea, coffee, and orange juice were offered. This is all served around a beautiful large wooden table in the dining room of the home, or outside in the common area if you prefer. I would not hesitate recommending a stay at this wonderful B&B.

Inkorrekte Übermittlung.
Durch nicht korrekte Übermittlung der Bettenzahl war nur1 Doppelbett vorhanden. Der Vermieter hat sich Ber bemüht, ausserhalb einzuquartieren. Das Frühstück war excellent.

Beautifully restored and charmingly decorated space, large, gorgeous rooms, excellent service and hospitality and delicious breakfasts. The host gave us great tips and advice for exploring the area and enabled the perfect experience in Takaka. Highly recommend!

Nice old building, welcome was great, had tea served and Mark talked us through the area. Room was nice and bathroom was clean, but there were a lot of dead flies on the carpets. It seemed to be run as a B&B in the main house and then a hostel or something in an outhouse in the back and they cleaned the main house (there was a rota hanging on the fridge for chores). The main reason I wasn’t that impressed was because I hung two dresses out on a hanger (one worn and one brand new) and the brand new one mysteriously went missing when we were out one day...

Sehr authentisches und ausgefallenes B&B. Zimmer und Bad waren sehr sauber. Ausgesprochen schöner Gartenbereich und Frühstücksraum. Gemeinschaftskühlschrank in der Küche. Sehr gutes Frühstück mit Müsli, Toast, sehr frischem Obst und alles vom Chef selbst zubereitet. Das Shady Rest B&B können neue nur bestens empfehlen.

屋主是一個英國人，因為TAKAKA冬天較少人潮，所以只在春夏的時候有經營B&B，屋主非常友善且熱情風趣，準備早餐很好吃，新鮮的優格和炒蛋吐司還提供一整壺的咖啡和茶享用 該房子最早以前是當地唯一外科醫生的家，已經經歷過百餘年了，現在有很多裝飾是屋主準備的，覺得很棒

Was für ein wundervoller Platz auf Erden. Nachdem mir Mark das Zimmer gezeigt hat, gab er mir, bei einer Tasse frisch aufgebrühten Tee, Tipps in der Umgebung. Er fragte mich auch, ob ich nicht Lust hätte, am Abend mit Pizza zu essen, die es anlässlich der Abreise eines anderen Pärchens gibt - was für ein toller Service. Das Zimmer - es gab ein kostenfreies Upgrade - war riesig und, wie auch der Rest des Hauses, sauber und toll eingerichtet. Bad, Küche und Innenhof überzeugten ebenso wie das frisch und lecker zubereitetet Frühstück am Morgen. Einziger „Kritikpunkt“: eine Nacht war deutlich zu wenig. Hier hätte ich deutlich mehr Nächte verbringen sollen, denn so einen tollen Ort hatte ich bis dato nirgends in Neuseeland gefunden. Ein Traum!

The owner wasnt there when we arrived. The property is run down and smells old. No heating in the bathroom. breakfast was simple with no attention by a staff member. located right by the main road - noisey.
