The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is an unforgettable experience in the lush forests that cascade down Mount Tamborine. Situated within 30 acres (12.1 hectares) of privately owned rainforest, the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk follows the meandering Cedar Creek to give a unique insight into the rainforest’s biodiversity. Wander along the rainforest trail and make your way from the shaded forest floor to breathtaking vantage points that pierce the canopy and look out over the treetops. Encounter native animals, go birdwatching or spot some of the magnificent butterflies that make the rainforest their home.
Begin your adventure at the Rainforest Eco Gallery, which has a series of informative displays and dioramas. Learn about the region’s Aboriginal history, as well as the amazing biodiversity of the rainforest. You’ll see displays about insects and an aquarium with local river critters. When you’re ready to begin strolling along the 0.9-mile (1.5 kilometer) trail, step out onto the Skywalk bridge and begin your ascent into the canopy.
Follow the trail as it weaves through the trees. You’ll walk along the forest floor, far below the lush green fronds of ferns, palms and other tropical species. Modern steel bridges take you up above the ground and through the mesmerizing green of the treetops. Keep watch for kookaburras cackling on branches and nectarbirds feeding on the blossoms. You might see brightly colored butterflies fluttering around the leaves. Look down into the rockpools in the creek below and you might spot a platypus.
A cantilever bridge will bring you to a spectacular viewing platform that soars high above the canopy. Look out across the rainforest vista and take photographs as a memento of your experience. For more souvenirs, return to the reception and visit the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk’s gift shop. You can grab a quick lunch, snacks and drinks at the café located on site.
The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is located in North Tamborine and can be reached within an hour’s drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Discounted admission is available for families, students and seniors. The trail is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. The walk can be comfortably completed in 45 minutes.
