"Great food and drinks and a beautiful setting in the mountains. The room was clean and all we needed for a unique stay in the mountains away from everything. The hosts were lovely and our boys loved the mountain biking experience and being able to hire from the lodge. Thank you Porters Lodge for being so accomodating! "
"I was very pleased to be able to take my dog.
Young lady who checked me in was very helpful trying to get me live TV reception.
Unfortunately we were both unsuccessful."
"My wife and I have stayed at many top resorts / get aways around the globe. Flock Hill is definatly in our top 5. It reminds us of Blackberry Farms in Tennessee. "
"This was an absolutely fantastic place to stay. What a gem! Sue Ellen could not have been more welcoming - even making a dinner reservation for us and updating the restaurant because we were running late.
Rimu Lodge is delightful. The rooms are large, contemporary yet cosy, beautifully decorated and with lots of little touches such as a turn down service, exquisite bathroom products and fine quality chocolate treats to welcome you. The super king bed was extremely comfortable and my husband and I slept like tops!
Our room opened out onto a gorgeous veranda where, weather permitting, you can stargaze at night and relax during the day.
We arrived too late for the welcome happy hour drinks to meet our host and other guests, but this was another lovely touch.
Breakfast was divine. High quality ingredients, fresh fruits and pastries plus beautifully cooked hot options. Both hubby and I had the French toast which was accompanied by a divine fruit compote. Totally delicious.
Sue Ellen was really helpful in providing tips on what to see and do in the area and relating to our onward journey. Thank you Sue Ellen for being so kind and attentive. We really felt that it was important to you that we enjoyed our stay and we appreciate the effort you made on our behalves.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rimu Lodge. You won't be disappointed."
"At the time of writing, this hotel has a 9.2 on Expedia. That is truly absurd.
This hotel is old (they don’t call it “historic” for nothing) and run down (featuring peeling wallpaper, a saggy matress, threadbare carpet and a kitchen that looks like it was built in the 80s). Making things worse, there is literally not a single thing of interest in Kumara (it only exists because it is a stop on the West Coast Wilderness Trail). Unless you’re using this hotel as a way to break your cycle trip, I see no reason to stay here. "
