Paradise with beaches, walks and farm animals.
The Palación de Toñaneswas one of the most unforgettable hotels we have ever stayed in. A 300-year-old farmhouse made from cut store - even the doorways were chiselled from stone. Add matching furniture and it was like living in a period house. The gardens are extensive and immaculate. Lods of area for kids to play and a securely fenced swimming area. The Hotel is surrounded by working farms with cattle, deer, horses, goats, chickens and rabbits. A little piece of paradise. Yes, you can touch them. The closest beach is 2 miles and a beautiful walk over the headland. The sunsets from the headland (5 mins walk) over the Atlantic / Bay of Biscay are stunning as are the waves crashing into the cliffs.
The menu is extensive and the food was superb. Given how few rooms there are, it has the feel of a personal chef. Best fish I have ever tasted.
The rooms were spotless and the staff were super helpful and friendly, with lots of advice about the surrounding area and food.
Great area for walking - especially if you want to experience a few miles of the Northern Camino. The hotel is on the route. Comillas is 9km and Santillana del mar 8km. Good base for sightseeing and touring by car.
Strongly recommended.

Hotel muy agradable por su ubicación. Puedes desayunar en la terraza junto al jardín. El entorno es maravilloso para pasear y relajarse junto al mar.
La habitación en la buhardilla es un poco incómoda y baño con muy poca luz a pesar de tener velux en el techo.

Not what we expected...
Location was out of the way but quite pretty. The first disappointment was that despite booking quite far in advance for a double room we had been allocated a twin. The hotel was cold and so we decided not to eat there. Breakfast was very disappointing - cake and coffee and a bit of bread and cheese. No fruit or yogurt. Cereal was on the side but no bowls or milk. I would not rush back but looks a good place for families.
